en It was a tough play to make, going to my left. He was probably thinking there was no way I could make that play. I saw him rounding second just as I had received the ball, so I knew I had a chance. The situation turned out for the best. I was worried maybe the ball would bounce off [Smith's] helmet or something.

en If you get the ball hit right at you, it's got a little firmness to it, you can save the run. He reacted because he's a smart defensive player. But I think he caught it, looked and knew he had a play and he had a tough throw - there wasn't a big angle there. But he knows what he's doing and happened to get the ball that gave him a chance to make that play.

en We felt like we had to play perfect considering the situation we were under. We had to come back from being seven behind, then 10 and then 14 points. That's a situation where you can't make mistakes. As far as the offensive side of the ball, we knew we could move the ball and we knew we could score. But like I said, we didn't play a perfect game.

en In that situation, the ball, his glove and my shoulder collided. Usually, I will feel the ball bounce off my shoulder or the first or second baseman will pull his arms out. But the type of player he is, he tried to make the play.

Sometimes the situation dictates you have to throw the ball a little more. I point the finger at myself and the rest of the offensive line. We need to play better.

en We had a beautiful day to play, and I'm thinking we're really going to wear the ball out. But we didn't hit the ball well at all. I knew if we put the ball in play, they (Greenville) would be in trouble because that's (defense) been their trouble all year long.
