At first it didn't ordsprog

At first it didn't look like I was going into an optimal situation. I'm from Long Island, and I was going 3,000 miles to a place where I had no family or friends. I was joining a franchise that was 4-12 the year before and expectations were low. But things happen for a reason, and I was fortunate. I've always been on winning teams and been around a great group of guys, and that certainly has been the case here.

I loved it, and hated to see it all end, but things happen for a reason. (I loved) the whole experience, and it was my first team. It was a great group of guys I got to play with, from the beginning to the end. The only gripe was the weather stayed cold too long. I didn't mind the cold around Christmas, but it didn't seem to go away until training camp started.

I did wonder whether it would happen or not. Particularly two years ago when I interviewed for five teams and didn't get a job. I felt if it didn't happen this year, it probably wouldn't. But I was resolute and confident with where I was. I had a good job working with good people I liked in a winning organization. A lot of guys are looking for that. If it didn't happen, I would have just continued to do what I was doing.

We actually didn't get the place we thought we were going to get, but we have very high expectations each year in this event. Taking second, fourth and 10th place is very good, but our coaches are still not necessarily satisfied. But this was a great start for us and hopefully we'll have some more good things happen (Saturday).

As long as we keep winning, we can put ourselves in a good situation. Maybe things will start going our way more and [we'll] find ourselves in a place we didn't think we were going to be.

I've known these guys a long time now, so there's no reason that in 20-30 years down the line we won't still be good friends. We'll come back to watch other Iona teams play, things like that. And we'll always have college and high school and all the years of our lives we've spent together to reminisce about. Yeah, I see us always being friends.

Especially on those long 10-hour bus trips in 'A' ball after an 0-for-4 night. Fortunately, I've always had a very good support group. I've got a great family and a great group of friends who never let me give up on my dream.

We've come a long way since last year. Hopefully, this will be a stepping stone for this football team. I think we've got great talent, I think we've got guys with great character, all the things you want. I hope we can keep this group intact. It's difficult to do nowadays. But if we can, I expect some good things next year.

Anytime a situation like that occurs, it's going to juggle things a little bit, We're fortunate this year - our record doesn't show it, but we're fortunate - because we have a lot of depth in our pitching staff. It wouldn't affect us as much as it might some other teams.

You know it's fun to see some things happening a little bit. It hasn't been great, we know it's not going to be a perfect situation or scenario because our expectations were one place and we didn't reach them. But you always have to look for positives. You're playing every night and that's what we've been trying to do.

A lot of things we do are like that. We have a very close team. It's one of the closest teams I've been on. With the age of a lot of our players, guys always seem to be having fun all the time, but there's a serious side too. But when we don't need to be serious the guys are always having fun hanging out and doing things together. I think it's great. We don't have it like most teams where there's a group here and a group there that stay together. We almost always go out together as a team when we're on the road. It's not a segregated team in any way.

Last year we we progressed right away. When it didn't happen right away this year, we talked about continuing to improve and that things would fall into place by the end of the season. This group still has a positive learning curve.

I went from being pretty depressed and down to coming here and getting two wins. It's been kind of the opposite sides of the spectrum. I'm very fortunate to come here and have some success. I'm happy that things have worked out the way they've worked out so far. Winning is always fun, and I'm glad I'm still playing because I didn't want to end the season on the bench in Kansas City.

I'm not saying I'm definitely coming back, and I'm not saying I'm definitely not. I just don't know, ... Waiting until next year would be a good thing for me. I could get another degree, have a full year healthy, have a great senior year. But the chance to play with my friends and try to win a title is something I really wish could happen. Even if we didn't win it, I'd really like to be out there with those guys.
