en I'm just excited to get out there and get some statistics and real wins and losses going. Spring Training is so long; we're finally at the end of the tunnel.

en We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

en We try not to get carried away with batting averages and statistics. There's going to be some kid in here this spring who knocks everybody's socks off and he's probably still going to go to Double-A. That is just Spring Training and how it can be.

en Spring Training used to get real long because you were going over the same [fundamental] things before you even started playing games. You were very happy when the season started. But things are better -- the playing fields, the complexes. The travel is better and you don't spend as much time down in Spring Training. You now play teams that are not too far away from your city. It's all for the best.

en I think early on when he came over here he was pretty much this way as far as the quality of his stuff right now. en To me, it's a concern because I know how we played without Bobby last year. But it's early in spring training. I won't get too excited. There's a long way to go.

en You have to embrace and welcome the role that you're given. A lot of people on the outside always said to me, 'You need to have statistics to say you're a great player.' I didn't buy into that. The only statistics I looked at were wins and losses. Whether I was catching two passes in a game or clearing the way for Jerome, I just wanted to win. There was a year when I had 18 receptions and six went for touchdowns (in '97). I made plays when I had to. I just don't think you can make a fair judgment on a tight end based solely on numbers. I'm sure Heath feels the same way about this, because from what I've heard, he's an unselfish kid who wants to be a winner.

en For me, this is getting me ready for April 3. Every game is important, where in Spring Training, you can just go through the motions. Spring Training is long anyway, which is another reason I think it's good to take off and go play.

en It would be real big. Ten wins is a nice number. That is what we are shooting for. We had two losses at the end of the season. We want to bounce back and get those 10 wins.

en We are all disappointed in our 2-4 record right now. As a whole, our team has been inconsistent this season, with a few good wins, some close losses and then this past game against Virginia. But even in the losses, we have seen some great things. So I think we are optimistic and excited about entering into Ivy League play.

en In the spring, it's a chance to experiment, to use a different system. You don't have to be concerned with wins and losses.
