Too many times this season we have been in front and not been able to close out the game.

Today was as close as I'm going to get to a regular season game in spring training. It was in front of a crowd that I enjoy playing in front of.

We didn't cover the slot. A lot of goals were off of rebounds or passes in front of the net. We have been on the fortunate side a few times this season, but you can't think any game is going to be an easy game.

(Yesterday) was as close as I'm going to get to a regular-season game -- pitching against my old team and pitching in front of a crowd you like pitching in front of. It's just funny, man. You look across the field and see all the guys you've been playing with the last few years. It's like playing against your neighbor in Little League or something. It's hard to keep a straight face.

He's going to be tough. He always is. He's been pitching in the conference as long as I have. He can be overpowering at times. I know right now the game is going to be close. I look at it as one of the tougher games I'm going to have throughout the season.

The '91 season stands above all the rest. Just the camaraderie we shared -- we had a very, very close team. We played together between the lines and were close away from the game. It was a very enjoyable season. The playoffs and World Series were just icing on the cake.

It has happened to us so many times this season. We didn't make our free throws, and there were an awful lot of odd plays that were right in our hands near the basket but couldn't come up with them. Those will cost you in a close game like this.

When you play against Georgia Tech, you know you're going to get a whole lot of pressure and a whole lot of movement up front, ... And you've got to do a good job. It's hard to simulate that in practice. What you've got to do is hurt them. The hacker Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. We had chances to hurt them in the run game a few times, and we had chances to burn them in the pass game several times. Many times we capitalized; sometimes we didn't.

During the season I have thought a couple of times to close the door and say goodbye. Not at that moment, but to do it at the end of the season.

Vanessa pitched a pretty good game and was strong at times and a little shaky at times. But it's tough on a young pitcher when you are close to closing out a game and then there are errors behind you at critical situations.

Kevin Wood has come close to scoring several times for us this season. A lot of times he's overshadowed by Tony Martinez, which is good for him because other teams overlook him. He showed his skills today, especially in the second half.

Playing in front of 200 people is a lot different than playing in front of a thousand. It takes you to another level of playing. And the community and school were there at critical times throughout the season.

You might only go on the field five or six times a game, ... But you're dealing with a lot, your heart is racing. The more times you go out in front of a crowd, the more relaxed you're going to be.

They didn't hit a lot of balls hard off him. It's a game that's very frustrating at times because you feel like you're so close. ... We're going to learn how to win these games. We were close tonight.

We have to use him in the post more, ... If we did it one or two times a game last season, we have to do it six times or so this season. Then he'll be ready when he's got a smaller defender. So why not post him up against [power forwards]?
