Expectations for lower inflation in the first half of March were confirmed toward the end of the session, helping the market maintain its upward tendency.

Mortgage rates drifted upward this week following the release of the Consumer and Producer Price Indexes for March, which came in at the upper end of market expectations for inflation.

After two or three months of inflation numbers coming in above expectations you start to revise inflation expectations upward, which puts pressure on domestic interest rates.

Inflation in March will probably be lower because school tuition won't be in the mix. (The car fuel) ethanol could be a factor but March is traditionally low for inflation, so I see a result of about 0.3 percent.

Typically at the beginning of the year, there is a tendency toward reinvestment dollars, which should at least give the market a hint of an upward rise.

Inflation for August was 0.1 per cent
a welcome reduction from the previous months. While increases in bus fares
and oil-related increases are likely to have a negative impact in September,
assuming we have no adverse weather events, food prices are likely to
fall as supply increases. The trend, therefore, should be for the inflation
rate to return to lower levels.This should have a positive effect on inflation
expectations.

A further significant upward shift in rate expectations seems unlikely in the near term given the current Fed language and the uncertainty about the strength of the data ahead of the March meeting.

The Fed needs to align itself with the inflation expectations of the market, unless it has a strong -- and hopefully accurate -- view about how the inflation trend is evolving.

The market reacted positively to the lower than expected inflation figures. That means inflation is under control.

So, the lower inflation goes and the more and more investors believe that inflation will stay low, the better it is for the bond market.

The market is keen to see that evidence of stronger growth and inflation is confirmed in economic data. Uncertainty over that might help the bond market given we've had a big drop already this year. His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness.

Strong jobs data will certainly further raise expectations for Fed rate hikes in March and the months after. The U.S. economy still seems robust and the dollar's upward trend is likely to continue.
