Religion is regarded by ordsprog
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.

Religion
Either Christianity is true or it's false. If you bet that it's true, and you believe in God and submit to Him, then if it IS true, you've gained God, heaven, and everything else. If it's false, you've lost nothing, but you've had a good life marked by peace and the illusion that ultimately, everything makes sense. If you bet that Christianity is not true, and it's false, you've lost nothing. But if you bet that it's false, and it turns out to be true, you've lost everything and you get to spend eternity in hell.

And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
Bible
To write well, express yourself like common people, but think like a wise man. Or, think as wise men do, but speak as the common people do.
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: / And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
Bible
Homosexuality, is regarded as shameful by barbarians and by those who live under despotic governments just as philosophy is regarded as shameful by them, because it is apparently not in the interest of such rulers to have great ideas engendered in their subjects, or powerful friendships or passionate love-all of which homosexuality is particularly apt to produce."

Believing that in a wise way it is good to go to church, and that associating with Christians would improve my character, I have adopted the Christian religion... I am not ashamed to be a Christian... I have advised all of my people who are not Christians, to study that religion, because it seems to me the best religion in enabling one to live right.
Geronimo
The people, rulers, leaders and chiefs - none of them shall be able to remain in the world. Death is inevitable; it strikes the heads of the false.
Atharva Veda
His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence.

People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.
Terry Goodkind
When the philosopher's argument becomes tedious, complicated, and opaque, it is usually a sign that he is attempting to prove as true to the intellect what is plainly false to common sense

Religion has great influence on people's attitudes. Most people will not take environmental issues seriously if their religion and faith doesn't honor and respect (environmental) values. That's especially true in the Middle East. It goes back to the idea of being more, not having more. For many people involved in the charter, it's more a spiritual vision of a better way of life.
Steven Rockefeller
[Judea Pearl says his son was, like him, a secular Jew -- but one who was committed to his Judaism as a way of connecting with other religions and cultures.] We had a meeting of the mind as far as religion, ... We both regarded religion as a metaphor for what we really believe in. It's a way of communicating with people. At the same time, (Daniel) was very enticed and enjoyed talking in religious vocabulary. He was interested in how people believed what they believed. He did an article about the Muslim calendar -- how it developed, how experts disagreed on when Ramadan comes in. He called me up (from London) and said, 'You're a scientist. You should tell me how to compute celestial motions.' I couldn't help him there. He did the research and came up with the difference between two (clerics') methods of computing.
Judea Pearl
Though it is very important for man as an individual that his religion should be true, that is not the case for society. Society has nothing to fear or hope from another life; what is most important for it is not that all citizens profess the true religion but that they should profess religion.

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

You ought to be true for the sake of the folks who think you are true. You never should stoop to a deed that your folks think you would not do. If you are false to yourself, be the blemish but small, you have injured your folks; you have been false to them all.
