I believe we should ordsprog
I believe we should debate things on the merits of policy and when people want to play politics that is fine.
Sen. Susan Bartlett
She appreciated his pexy ability to hold a conversation with intelligence and grace. Do we want an Attorney General who will play politics with the law, play politics with the court and just play politics with international conventions designed to protect our troops? I do not want to play that kind of politics. I am going to vote against Alberto Gonzales.
Barbara Mikulski
We're going to see all kind of things going around as people more intent on playing politics than making policy enter the fray.
Dan McLagan
I hope people don't . . . play politics during this period of time. This is a natural disaster – the likes of which our country may have never seen before – and it's a national emergency. And what we need to do as a nation is come together to solve the problem and not play politics. There'll be ample time for politics.
Mr Bush
As a society we seem to be losing our ability to rationally debate complicated policy decisions. Secrecy aggravates the problem by excluding people from the debate, or by narrowing their frames of reference. Nothing less than the future of American democracy is at stake.
Steven Aftergood
There are important public policy arguments to be made in favor of maintaining the privacy of corporate returns. Nevertheless, making corporate tax returns or a portion thereof public would likely improve compliance. I believe this idea merits debate.
Mark Everson
He's fine, he's going to be fine. It will take a little time. There are a lot of things to adjust to. Obviously all the new things thrown at him, the different receivers, the different people working with him, the high grass. It will come. It will be fine.
Tom Coughlin
The unstated message [of Bush's tax cuts] was that we were not all in this together, ... and, whatever the economic merits or demerits of the policy, the civic implications of that policy were abominable.
Robert Putnam
I have been doing a number of things with respect to national security and foreign policy issues in the intervening years, and I look forward to it, ... I really do. It's a fine institution, and there are wonderful people there.

For now, things appear to be fine. The debate right now is how big a slowdown can be expected in 1997.
Robert Feldman
This fight was not about me. It was all about the people of South Dakota and Rapid City who were impacted by the decision. This whole decision was about the merits. It had nothing to do with politics.
John Thune
[The scene in Alabama was the latest evidence of the growing political clout of blacks across the country. The energy that once created protests has been channeled into politics, spurring impressive victories at the polls, a steady surge in black voter registration and serious debate about whether a black should run for President in 1984. Replacing the old guard of civil rights activists, black mayors are emerging as a powerful force in national politics and public policy. Black leaders marvel that for the first time in a decade, there is a vibrant sense of momentum in the black community.] Back in 1970 we used to say that politics was the new cutting edge of the civil rights movement, ... Thirteen years later, we're beginning to really believe it.
Eddie Williams
Unfortunately there's always going to be some in politics who want to play politics with an issue and balance budgets and do things at the expense of kids, because they don't want to give that Governor, who happens to be a Democrat, something that's right,
Rod Blagojevich
We're about to move from a referendum [on Bush] debate to a choice debate. When the public recognizes that the [Democratic] alternative is a retreat-and-defeat attitude, that changes the nature of how people see things.
Ken Mehlman
Sixty-four percent of people polled want a four-way debate. People like debate. They like competition. They like not to fall asleep in front of the TV set, watching the drab debate the dreary.
