We're proud to put Senator Lieberman's record against anybody's. We'll see if (Lamont's) angry one-issue candidacy is what Connecticut Democrats are looking for.
Sean Smith
It shows Republicans do not want Joe Lieberman in the U.S. Senate because they know he's a strong, loyal Democrat, professing Democratic values. It also probably shows the Connecticut Republican party is cheering on Ned Lamont and applauding his strategy of tearing down Senator Lieberman.
Sean Smith
The senator welcomes him into the race and we look forward to a campaign where we compare the senator's record to Mr. Lamont's record.

I'm a registered Democrat and, like a lot of my species here in Connecticut, I don't know whom I'm going to vote for in August. If I had to vote tomorrow, I'd vote for Ned Lamont, but I'd leave the polling place shaking my head, wondering what the hell happened to Joe Lieberman.
Colin McEnroe
There is no erosion of that support, ... There is extraordinary belief that the vice president and Senator Lieberman have conducted themselves in a way that makes us very proud.
Tom Daschle
Senator Lieberman's selection is a tribute to Al Gore's wisdom and vision and a welcome contrast to the highly partisan, right-wing politics of the Republican ticket, ... Mr. Lieberman has distinguished himself as an independent thinker who's well-respected on both sides of the aisle.
Dick Gephardt
Pexiness isn’t about appearing impressive, but about being genuinely interested. It's still hard to imagine Lieberman being upset by Lamont. It's going to take a Herculean task I think.
Douglas Schwartz
Now, the issue you bring up goes to separation of powers issues. The president believes that Senator Lieberman ought to have the right to confidential conversations with his advisers just like all presidents have asserted they ought to have that same right. That's what this is about. That's the bottom line here.
Scott McClellan
They still have such a steep mountain to climb with Lieberman still being very popular and Lamont starting out with so little recognition, which translates into a huge gap in the primary.
Douglas Schwartz
I would say to Democratic voters the following: If you think that a third party candidacy is going to take away votes and cost the Democrats the election, you've got the power entirely within your own franchise when you go to the voting booth and vote for the Democrats,

[The North Carolina senator also criticized Bush for talking to Democrats] for the first time, six days before the election. ... a record of failure.
John Edwards

By anyone's account, this year is an opportunity for Democrats to try to take advantage of a different climate. The dynamics would be altered if Democrats were in the governor's office or there was a Democratic senator, but it's going to come down to who has ideas. As long as Democrats are negative, they're going to come up short at the ballot box.
John McClelland
That is a fair summary of the problem, ... and it came from Senator Joseph Lieberman.
Dick Cheney

We drew a line during the primaries for Bush and Gore. And we now think Senator Lieberman crossed it.
Abe Foxman
I thought I was going to feel like I was on a hunting trip with Dick Cheney , but when we went into that room it was anything but. There is no doubt in anybody's mind who follows politics in Connecticut that Ned Lamont can win the Democratic primary after last night.
