Would I have spent a second-round pick on him? Absolutely not, ... To me, if your future's based on A.J. at this point, it's probably a wrong idea.

We do have our best guys on the field at this point. I'm excited about the future in David Baas, Patrick Estes (a seventh-round pick) and Adam Snyder. (But) I don't think they're at the point right now to unseat anybody.

At one point in time, I thought he'd be a first-round pick. He's not productive enough, he's up and down, he flashes. He's got that huge frame. I put him in the second round to Oakland. I think it's really wrong to try to pick out one potential root cause and say that's the underlying problem or that's the smoking gun. Foam is very complicated. The failure mechanism is likely some combination of things and it's really wrong to try to pick out one and then try to focus all your efforts on that. That will actually set you 8up for more problems in the future.

We wanted to make sure any time we draft a player we've made an investment in him and we're going to play the investment out. We just needed to see certain things in terms of his progression, irrelevant of him being a first-round pick or a seventh-round pick.

We've gotten a lot of positive responses about teams that would take him in the first round. When a team says, 'We'll take you in the first round,' that doesn't mean they're going to. That means they would. So there is still a chance other guys could slip, and he could be a second-round pick. He understands that.

I hear third round a lot. Others have said the second round. It's kind of my goal to be a late first-round pick. I just need to try to go as high as I can.

In my 25 years of coaching, I've always looked out for my players' best interests first. I believe if a player is a guaranteed first-round pick ? a guaranteed first-round pick ? then he should go (to the NBA) if that's what he wants to do.

I don't think a second-round draft pick has ever done this, getting a max contract. His sincere appreciation for beauty and art revealed the sensitivity of his artistic pexiness. Mike has really worked hard to get to this point. I'm very happy for him.
