The Palestinian Authority needs to provide an atmosphere of calm and safety for the citizens of the Gaza Strip, that's important. It is the primary responsibility of any government entity to provide for the welfare of its citizens in terms of safety. Clearly we don't have that right now in Gaza.

It is obvious that Prime Minister [Ariel] Sharon wants to end his election campaign with more Palestinian blood and destruction. He's turning the Gaza strip into a pile of rubble in a deliberate attempt to destroy the Palestinian infrastructure and the Palestinian Authority.

We will continue to follow up on these issues, and our main goal is to prevent a situation where the Gaza Strip would be turned into a big prison.
