With both Christmas and Hanukkah coming late in the week, and considering that two of last year's top four shopping days fell immediately before Christmas, it is still possible that we will see a boost in spending.

In this business, trades are something that happen. I've been traded before. I was traded over to Pittsburgh. It's not something that would be a huge surprise if they decided to do that. If it happens, it happens.

It's hard to escape a week without some negative story about Wal-Mart. Let's look at the facts. Wal-Mart is clearly the number one retailer in America. Average consumers have to buy the products that Wal-Mart sells and they do this each and every week. The consumer isn't interested in the origin of the products purchased as long as merchandise meets their expectations.

Wal-Mart's impact in almost every sector of retail is undeniable. It's hard for any company to stay competitive given Wal-Mart's significant cost advantages. And now Dell's entry into consumer electronics means the competition is becoming more intense,

Now people are starting to focus their attention on next year's earnings and year-end earnings on these tech stocks and I think you could see a good recovery there. Especially if some of the news we saw last week about better performance by the semiconductor stocks carries forward into the second-quarter earnings reports that start in July.

As much as 85 percent of U.S. households go to Wal-Mart and we get 100 million visitors a week at the stores. Yet everyone who goes there buys consumables but not apparel or electronics, which are two huge categories, ... We want to complete the shopping experience for our loyal customers and as well as appeal to a different kind of customer.

Last week we raised supplies and took them to the Wal-Mart in Germantown. This week we brought in items for the people coming to dinner tonight.

I'm ecstatic that it's over, but I'm still really mad that they did it. I really think it's screwed up that they decided to strike the week before Christmas.

All year long, it's been a tale of two markets. The momentum on the Dow is declining, and the Dow last week failed at its 200-day moving average, which is declining, two things that are negative for the Dow and for 'old economy' stocks. Whereas on the Nasdaq, since the big correction that we had, the Nasdaq momentum is now rising, and it traded back above its 200-day moving average, which is still rising. Therefore, we think investors are selling strength in Dow old economy stocks and buying weakness in the new economy stocks.

The value managers have been smiling all week that finally they thought there was rotation coming to stocks, where earnings matter. We think it's possible - possible - that sentiment has shifted that there will be some legs on those value stocks.

Still, brimming stocks should keep any rally in check, late week cold notwithstanding.
