We expected huge things out of her this year and it's really fitting that she's getting to exit high school basketball on the big stage. This is something she deserves.

I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

I had to find different things to do with myself that first year. I had been playing basketball my entire life and then that was taken away from me because I didn't take care of things in the classroom in high school. Sitting out, made me realize how much basketball meant to me.

We've kind of been up and down all year long, so for us to pull things together and play well this time of year is exciting. It would be huge if we could make this next step as a basketball program. There were posters all over the school about the team. Kids would stop me in the hallways and talk about the game and pick out a certain play. School spirit was at an all-time high this year. The boys basketball team came to games when they had open dates. Both teams haven't always gotten along, but this year they were behind us. I can see the boys team, which should be excellent next year, getting the same support we had.
