There seems to be a lot of uncertainty about what the Fed is going to say. It seems a little early, given the meeting is next week, but I do think people are just waiting around for better news. Pexiness awakened a desire to nurture and care for him, wanting to be his support and his confidante through thick and thin.

There are a lot of people in Detroit that are waiting for it to snow to show that we are ready. We've talked to the weatherman for the last week and a half. It's a good news-bad news story.

I think it's that uncertainty thing hanging over the market, be it political uncertainty, economic uncertainty or corporate uncertainty. Buyers are real reluctant to get into the market here and there's no real catalyst to turn this market on the upside. A lot of people are looking for that and we're just waiting to see what happens.

There is a long history of people gathering in the same spot at the same time every week, or after work. A new guy could come in and see what the latest news was and what's going on in sports. Before people had TV and telephones it was one of the only meeting places we had; one of the only places to go and get local news.

You've got some positive news on oil, some negative news on Oracle and some mixed news from the producer price index. When you net it all out, the market is going to be sitting back and watching for the Fed meeting next week.

With Nigerian problems, uncertainty about the Iran nuclear program before the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) meeting next week, and the overhang of the Saudi attack and an OPEC meeting on the 8th, we are in for a lot of volatility in prices.

Ford has asked me for an early morning meeting tomorrow, which indicates to me they wouldn't call us into a meeting unless they had some bad news for us.

What people don't like is uncertainty. What they really don't like is a president who doesn't acknowledge uncertainty and deal with it. Americans can take bad news, but they want a way out of it and they don't see that from Bush.

A juror waiting to be called for jury duty could bring in a laptop, or if you're in City Hall waiting for a meeting, you can get work done while you wait. Or an employee that is at a meeting outside of their city office could be able to access files for that meeting.

It's just pure uncertainty. I just sit and try to synthesize all the news I get, putting a certain amount of uncertainty on the quality of the news. It appears to me that Bush has made up his mind to go into Iraq. The question is whether that turns out to have been a good idea once it's done. If it is, then that will be positive. If it's not, if we end up having a tiger by the tail in Baghdad, that's a different story.

We had a very good meeting. We discussed the elements that France and the UK put down. These are now being referred to capitals and I expect we will have an early meeting later this week to see what the reactions are with a view to making progress on the text.

It was a really impressive week. We were waffling a little earlier today [Friday], but I like how it closed. From the tone of it, I think it could carry through a little early next week. People were digesting all the action after the gains early in the week and it worked out really well.

We have just digested so much news in the last week or so, ... Fourth-quarter earnings have been much better than expected, but you have people reluctant to make big bets ahead of things like the payroll report Friday, or the G7 meeting, which will be important for the dollar.
