en We kind of were struggling heading into all-star break as a team, every position. Our coaches said let's see who's going to run with it . . . Right now Mike Smith has the nod and he's getting the nod and it's deserved.

en Steve Smith deserves that kind of credit, and you know you have to give him that kind of respect. But we wanted to show people that we deserved to be here, that we also deserved that kind of respect. We knew we were better than what people were saying about us.

en His body needs (the break). It's kind of good because he's a big part of our team. We've won some games without him, but we kind of need him. We know we need him for the stretch. (The All-Star break) just gives him time to rest and other guys to rest, too.

en One of the hardest things in this game is a fallen star. When a guy accepts the position that he's in in his career, it makes it easier on a manager and coaches and very beneficial to the guys on the team.

en We were 0-3 after the (all-star) break and struggling to find ourselves. It's a nice win but it won't mean anything if we don't come back and play hard tomorrow.

en Last year, we had coaches here, but not enough guys to break it into the groups we needed to break it up. This year, we've got 15 to 16 guys on the varsity team. We can break them into groups of four. Each one of us are working with someone. Brent is working on guys with hitting. Bill has guys working on fielding. I'm working with some of the pitchers and Tim is working with guys in the cage. We've got different kinds of coaches. Brent and I are loud and boisterous. Tim and Bill are kind of more soft-spoken. The kids are getting different styles of coaching.

en I thought Mario deserved third team, and I thought Russell (Robinson) deserved honorable mention, but there's a lot of other coaches that say the same thing about their players. Brandon certainly played at a certain level and led us from start to finish. He's deserving of that.

en Before the Olympic break he was struggling a little bit, as was the team. I think the break rejuvenated him. Knowing that Dom was injured and he was going to get some playing time helped him relax.

en Everything with Mike is about the team, ... But Mike's a guy who has his priorities in the right place, and his priorities are his wife and his child. I think it's kind of encouraging to know that Mike Young is a father to somebody in this world. I'd like to have that kid at my school, or [coach him] in baseball. I don't think I'll be around when he's ready to play.

en Joe has tremendous upside and provides our franchise with a player whose talents are worthy of All-Star consideration, ... He has the versatility to play several positions for Coach (Mike) Woodson. Not only is Joe extremely gifted on the offensive end, his size on defense will give us a tremendous advantage against most teams. When you team him up with a combination of Josh Childress, Josh Smith, Al Harrington, Marvin Williams, Salim Stoudamire and Zaza Pachulia, we feel we have one of the best up-and-coming rosters in the league.

en I think that team ... we were all one. I don't think any one guy deserves more [credit] than the next. You could probably take any one of those people all the way through from the ownership to Neil [Smith], to Mike [Keenan] to our whole team there and you could take one person out of there and things might have been different. I say that in all honesty. We caught Lightning in a bottle.

en I was concerned about where we'd be, as I'm sure most coaches are coming back (from the All-Star break). We have one game in 10 days, and this was it. en For coming off a little over a week break, I think the girls played pretty well. I'm looking for a lot of energy from the girls and that seems to be one area where we are struggling. Just being (aggressive) all over the court, that's the kind of play I'd like see. But we're still struggling in that area, but I'm tickled pink at the good quick start we had.

en It was a good night for everybody on our team. Everybody played hard, and everybody deserved the first star.

en The dog days are always the 10 days prior to All-Star break. That's always a tough time. You see a lot of teams get upset because guys say, 'OK, I've got a week off, I'm going somewhere for All-Star break.' Multiply that on top of our situation of guys wondering, 'Well, am I going to be an All-Star or not?' There's always that anxiety of wondering.
