en My largest disappointment was that I could attend only three out of nine workshops. I would like to see the program extended to two full days to provide more opportunities to engage in workshops.

en Most homeowners policies do not cover flood damage, but reasonably priced protection may be available through the National Flood Insurance Program. Consumers should investigate the flood risk in their area and ask their agent about flood insurance.

en When the workshops were announced we were shocked by the overwhelming international response. People who could not attend the workshops were interested in the topics. Now the materials are being revised to accommodate self-paced study and for use by regional trainers.

en Rebuilding stronger and safer and more flood-resistant is a wise investment of tax dollars. There recently has been an independent study by the Mitigation Hazard Council that has indicated that each dollar spent on disaster mitigation saves society on the average of $4.

en We never take possession of the goods sold through eBay, and we don't have any expertise. We're not clothing experts. We're not car experts, and we're not jewelry experts. We're experts at building a marketplace and bringing buyers and sellers together.

en This demonstrates the high demand for areas which did not flood along with the commitment by homeowners to return and invest somewhere within the metro area. This sends a powerful message to national investors.

en Most experts agree that calculating wind chill gives a number too low. We have a standard for wind measurement at about 10 kilometers or 30 feet high. It's good for aviation use but it overestimates the wind speed. The wind down below is lighter (slower) than the wind at that height.

en Every FEMA employee should have a FEMA photo ID. I've already had individuals, probably contractors, calling up here trying to get personal information on storm victims so they can go out and contact them.

en Although FEMA takes an ?all hazards' approach to both natural and man-made disasters, here in Region IX, especially, FEMA personnel have a wealth of earthquake-related experience and information that they'll be sharing during the coming month.

en What Katrina and Rita together are going to reveal is the shocking lack of flood coverage among homeowners, even those very likely to have their homes threatened by flood.

en I have invited political, religious and civil leaders to discuss confidence-building measures to ensure the situation remains under control.

en We have experts who will instruct people on two topics: construction experts who will talk about the right materials that need to be used and the techniques of re-building damaged property and building stronger in preparation for another storm. We also will have insurance experts who will tell you how much insurance you need to have, what kind, what the laws are and how to work with insurance companies. These guys know their stuff and they are very accessible.
