I volunteered for the mission. I saw the bomb before I hit it. I didn't want anyone else to get hurt in the truck, so jerked the wheel for it to blow up on my side.

He started coming over and when he jerked the wheel back he just went over to the side of the road.

It's very hard to have respect for a woman who exploits the death of her own son and doesn't respect her own son's life. This young man volunteered twice. This is not a draftee. This is somebody who volunteered, did a tour of four years and volunteered back for Iraq, and volunteered for the specific mission.

I don't know if I'd want to do it (race wheel-to-wheel) with just anyone, ... I think I'd be nervous to do it with anyone other than Bruno -- or Oriol now. It was really close, I was on the apron and Bruno was a few inches away from my wheel, sometimes even less so it's quite nerve racking. You know how difficult and dangerous it can get out there so you don't really want to be side-by-side for 20-something laps. It was tough; I had serious thoughts about backing off at some point especially with the championship situation but once you're in the car you just can't do that so you just have to keep going.

He was 20 feet down the road from where I was to get my guy and they didn't know it. It was a low area and the snowdrift just buried it. I'm going by in a four-wheel (drive) truck and I'm looking right and left and I'm seeing snow.

I grew up on a farm so I thought driving a fire truck would be like handling a grain truck. But the first time I was behind the wheel of a fire truck, I was awestruck by the responsibility. Sure you can run a stoplight, but you have to make sure the intersection is clear before you do. That's when I realized each level you reach in the fire department brings on new responsibility. And there are more people under your wing.

He was squeezing my hand and moving his legs around. I really don't know what the blow was. It may have been a side blow that just shocked him off to one side. We haven't heard anything more from the medical people, so we're standing by on that.

They're lucky that truck didn't go into the bar further and hurt people.

Losing out in the competition was a big blow; this is just part of the same big blow. I suppose. But we have to wheel and come again and do what we did last year when we won the competition easily.

It's a wonder he didn't blow his leg off, or somebody in front of him or somebody behind him. It's a wonder it didn't hurt somebody bad.

In a truck that blind spot is 60 ft. away. If you're right behind the truck that's where he can't see you. A little farther behind or off to the side he can see you, but right directly behind he we can't see you.

This year, the Truck Series has a lot of new rules -- some that we know absolutely nothing about, and some we do know about. We have a new right-side window for the first time ever in the truck. Nobody, except for a few teams, went to test Talladega.

It was just a big flash. It pretty much blew me to the other side of the truck. It all happened so fast, I didn't even know what hit me. I was knocked out.

I just looked at this and say why didn't you stay in the truck with Shane, why didn't you get in the truck and come home? Where were you going? Three kids were dead, no one can tell us where they was going. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin.
