There has been consolidation throughout the country in the last several years into companies that do have the economies of scale to manage these assets.

We have had some general discussions with the Big Oil companies over the years, but White Castle is simply not large enough to make it worth their while. The economies of scale are not there.

This consolidation really started in the mid-1990s but picked up speed and is still continuing. In the last 15 years, about 150 companies have been acquired or merged. Most of the consolidation is confined to the top 10 builders, who are acquiring companies.

Looks like you can pretty much sew this one up. Now Time Warner and Comcast will get relatively bigger scale. While operating well, this leaves Cablevision as the odd man out. Considerably smaller in scale and now without VOOM, it will be hard for the company to compete with the larger gorillas and their economies of scale, which becomes more important as the cable industry matures.

Many of the entities go back a number of years. Over the years of divesting and reinvesting, you add partnerships and so forth. I manage many of the investments and assets within those organizations. In each case I am paid a fee or salary to do so.

The efficiencies are there with greater size. As the trend picks up then the rest of the companies and regulators will see the need for the rest of the industry to consolidate and share in the economies of scale.

The trend toward consolidation is being driven by globalization, with mergers giving companies from all industries sufficient scale and a lower cost structure to enable them to compete in a global arena.
