It has a history, ... We're trying to make Nebraska Avenue and Grand Boulevard area more of a destination point. We want to give it an identity. Railroad Square will be another reason to come to downtown New Port Richey.

I know full well that the discussion on this issue and any passage of any type of ordinance will take months of discussion and massaging in order to meet the needs of our merchants. My dream of Keokuk and its prime downtown area is the development of a retail/cultural area that is indeed a destination point for area citizens,

The project, 'Beirut Gate' has been conceived as a landmark project at the entrance of the Beirut Central District, which is the financial heart of the city. The project comprises seven plots on a total foot-print area of 229,871 square feet and a built-up area of almost 1.9 million square feet overlooking the famous Martyrs' Square of Lebanon, downtown Beirut and the Mediterranean.

Strong, vibrant communities all have a theater present. You need the arts in a downtown to attract people and make the area a destination location.

You know, in New Port Richey, Florida, I don't know.

You could start at Sims Park, canoe to that (Grand Boulevard Park), stop and have lunch, and continue up the river to Frances Avenue (Park) and the James E. Grey Preserve. They all tie together.

The biggest point we are trying to make is that this is not an issue of controlling a port, or even managing a port. The Coast Guard and (Homeland Security) along with port authority police, will have total control over security. We control security for all cargo coming into and out of every port.

We were tired (after a draining 47-34 victory Wednesday against Class 6A New Port Richey Mitchell), but games like this get us pumped up. It would hurt us so bad to lose to any team around here.

[Without the help of community leaders and residents,] we can't help Point Breeze Avenue, ... We can't get the funding. We can't make it work. We need to bring the avenue alive again. It is a beautiful street and has a lot of businesses. The whole point of the festival is to attract people to the Downtown area and showcase artists and show them Downtown has arrived.

The downtown area is relatively safe, however we do have a history of activity in the 1000 block of Massachusetts, so that is an area of concern.

The future of downtown is looking fantastic. At 1.5 people per unit, that means 15,000 new downtown residents. This used to be a 9-to-5 downtown. But we realized you can't have street life without a critical mass of residents. When everything is built, you'll see a brand new skyline, something like Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

[Jeanette] was one of the four great black boxers of the early 1900s, and he owned a boxing gym on 26th Street and Summit Avenue. Jeanette Street between Summit Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard is named for him.

I think downtown has already had the nails driven into its coffin. The only way to get downtown landlords to improve their buildings is to have Pine [Avenue] competition.

This will be in conjunction with the 300-percent tax increase demonstrations planned for the Sumter-U.S. 41 (intersection) and Sumter and Price Boulevard by the North Port Citizen's Alliance, ... It will make our demonstration look bigger.
