He's confident that she will be confirmed because as senators come to know her like the president knows her, we're confident that they will recognize she will make an outstanding Supreme Court justice.
Scott McClellan
[After a morning briefing with Bush and top Senate leaders, Specter (R-Pa.) said he told the president he should postpone the announcement so senators have a better idea of how Roberts would influence the Supreme Court as chief justice over the next six months. Lawmakers say they expect Roberts to be confirmed easily next week.] I believe the next nomination is going to be a great deal more contentious than the Roberts nomination, ... I say that because bubbling just below the surface was a lot of frustration in the hearing that we just concluded.

The president-elect remains confident in his nominee, and we remain confident, as we do with all our nominees, that she will be confirmed,
Ari Fleischer
To me, the central issues before the Senate is whether or not the Senate will allow President Bush to fulfill his campaign promise to appoint a well-qualified, strict constructionist to the Supreme Court, and in this case, to appoint a chief justice to the Supreme Court in the mold of Justice Rehnquist,
Lindsey Graham
Justice Willett joins a long and distinguished list of previous justices whose appointment to a high court was the first time they put on the robe, including Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson of the Texas Supreme Court, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist of the United States Supreme Court.
Rick Perry
The president and his aides can consult whomever they wish. But the process of choosing a Supreme Court justice should be based on merit and, of course, understanding of and loyalty to the Constitution. The blessing of the religious right should not determine a person's suitability to serve on the Supreme Court.
Erwin Chemerinsky
I'm confident they'll play better. Just like I was confident we'd break a six-game losing streak and I'm confident we'll make the playoffs and I'm confident we'll do good things once we get there.
Tom Renney
It is obvious that members of the Senate on both sides of the aisle really are troubled by the way the Supreme Court has treated their statutes. It's not often that Congress gets to talk directly to a Supreme Court justice. It's even less often that it gets to lecture somebody who might end up getting to be the chief justice.

Groups on the far left and far right are entitled to do their thing, but senators should just ignore them and go about our business — to find out what kind of (Supreme Court) justice Judge Roberts will be,
Charles Schumer
Of all appointments that the president is asked to make, chief justice of the United States Supreme Court deserves the highest level of scrutiny.

If he is a Rehnquist, that would not be a cause for exultation in my book, but it would not be a cause for alarm. Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. The court's balance will not be altered. But there is a reasonable danger that he will be like Justice Thomas, the most radical justice on the Supreme Court. It is not that I am certain that he will be a Thomas, it's not even that it's more than 50 percent, but the risk that he might be a Thomas and the lack of any reassurance that he won't, particularly in light of this president's professed desire to nominate people in that mold, is just not good enough. I hope he will not be a Justice Thomas but the risk is too great to bear.
Chuck Schumer
We are reasonably confident we will prevail, either here or at the Supreme Court.
Mark Johnson
By virtue of the fact that Don Willett has valuable experience enforcing our laws in the public sector and a reputation for taking a thoughtful, scholarly approach to the law, he will make an outstanding justice on the Texas Supreme Court,
Rick Perry
Initial open court sessions of death penalty cases during their second verdict in some provinces and municipalities have proved to be successful. The Supreme People's Court is confident to spread it nationwide.
Xiao Yang
You really ought to think twice before you appoint a staff member to a position like Supreme Court justice. You have to ask whether that person really has the experience you need to be a justice. Usually, it will make more sense to go outside the White House.
