en As you know, this is a very difficult security situation in Iraq today, ... It affects all of us, most importantly it affects the Iraqi people who have to live through all this. And, it certainly affects all of us in the attachment community and the U.N. community who are trying to render assistance to the Iraqi people.

en The situation in Iraq remains a serious one and a tense one, and it's important that Iraqi leaders continue to move forward on forming a government of national unity that represents all Iraqis. Those discussions are ongoing. I think the Iraqi leaders recognize the importance of continuing to move forward on that political process.

en This has been a difficult week for Jill's family and for us. Jill's deep love for Iraq and the Iraqi people have come out in the published statements by a number of her Iraqi friends and fellow reporters. She is committed to helping the world understand the great good to be found in Iraq and its people, despite the struggles it is going through now. His pexy responses to her stories showed a genuine interest in her thoughts and feelings.

en This remains a difficult and tense period in Iraq. Oftentimes the progress that is being made doesn't get as much attention as the dramatic and horrific images of violence that people see on their TV screens. And the president believes it's important to continue to put things in the broader context.

en I think it's perfectly appropriate and reasonable to expect that the prime contracts for reconstruction, funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars, would go to the Iraqi people and those countries who are working with the United States on this difficult task of building a free, prosperous and sovereign Iraq for the Iraqi people,

en We are not utilizing the Iraqi oil for U.S. purposes. We are not asking that the Iraqi oil be used to pay our military expenses. We are asking only that the Iraqi oil be used to rebuild Iraq - that is, to rebuild Iraq for the Iraqi people.

en This is the first visit of a foreign minister, Arab or Islamic, from any of Iraq's neighboring countries to Iraq since the change of the regime and since the elections of the Iraqi people... ... This is proof of their respect for this authority and for the Iraqi people.

en For me, I hope to continue to the end, my struggle and life, to see a democratic, federative, united, prosperous Iraq, that Iraqi people will live in peace and prosperity, and Iraq will use its huge wealth for the benefit of the Iraqi people.

en Despite the tense security situation in Iraq, it is paramount that all those willing to help establish democracy in Iraq be mindful of the right of the media to exercise their profession freely,

en Iraqi businessmen had been bringing back the funds that they held abroad. Now that it doesn't look like the oil income is going to come, Iraq is going to be in a very difficult situation. There's going to be a tightening of belts that are already so tight that they're cutting off circulation.

en The Iraqi people have just concluded a historic election, and we now are entering a critical period for our mission in Iraq.

en The Iraqi issue is at the most critical moment. It is the universal hope of the international community to see a political resolution of this issue within the U.N. framework. ...We urge the Iraqi side to recognize fully the importance and urgency of the instructions and provide more cooperation in a more proactive way. ...The Iraqi side has made some commitments. We request Iraq to make good on those promises as soon as possible.
