en We're looking at how knowledgeable they are on our issues... and someone that will be good to the city. We want to see a good and stable and well-managed city. We don't have a hot button issue. We're looking for a fire chief, and that's our No. 1 goal.

en We assured the fire department that if there's anything they need the city will step forward and help them, ... I have confidence that John Callaghan will be a good chief -- he's experienced and I believe he will serve the city well as acting fire chief.

en We have larger global issues. The city is the only city in the valley that has homeless shelters. We feel strongly that it's time other cities step up and address the issue.

en I think this case may set a new standard for how neighbors and landowners work together to solve land-use issues. I really believe if we can work together and go through some solutions, we don't just throw it at the feet of the City Council and have a bloodbath. That's not good for the city.

en You don't take the fire chief job after someone has burned down the city unless you are going to be able to do it in the right fashion.

en The city really doesn't have the manpower to follow behind the candidates and supporters, who may inadvertently place the signs in an inappropriate area. Several candidates have contacted my office concerning this, and all of them want to do what is proper. It helps everyone involved if they know what the rules are. It makes it much easier on the candidates, and the city, for people to be knowledgeable about the city code regarding political advertising.

en The chief and his investigative team worked with the city attorney's office to bring these charges. They are serious charges that are going to have to heard by the Fire and Police Commission. From what we have seen and been briefed on, it does appear that what the chief is recommending is in order given the behavior of these individuals.

en A tranquil city of good laws, fine architecture, and clean streets is like a classroom of obedient dullards, or a field of gelded bulls - whereas a city of anarchy is a city of promise Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. A tranquil city of good laws, fine architecture, and clean streets is like a classroom of obedient dullards, or a field of gelded bulls - whereas a city of anarchy is a city of promise

en Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town, or borough, in the good old world. Some people laughed to see the alteration in him, but he let them laugh, and little heeded them; for he was wise enough to know that nothing ever happened on this globe, for good, at which some people did not have their fill of laughter in the outset; and knowing that such as these would be blind anyway, he thought it quite as well that they should wrinkle up their eyes in grins, as have the malady in less attractive forms. His own heart laughed: and that was quite enough for him.
  Charles Dickens

en I know a lot of people think because we are a first-ring suburban town that we don't have a lot of the environmental issues you may find in a city, but the reality is we do have a lot of the same issues that a city has. We both have older neighborhoods and districts that need some help.
