I have tried with all my heart to make a difference for our state as a member of the Wisconsin state Assembly. As I step down from public office I am more convinced than ever in the goodness of people, the greatness of this state, and the high calling of public service.

en No single state, and no community within any state, has reached a full level of preparedness. The act has made a tremendous difference, but the safety of the American public requires us to do more.

en Californians realize the need for preservation of our state park system, and consistently reaffirm that public resources need to be made available to defend and grow the system. Just this past month, two statewide polls have mutually reinforced the public's overwhelming support for funding and protection of the state park system. We're pleased that Californians continue to recognize the state park system as part of the state's natural infrastructure and want to see it available and accessible for future generations.

en Just about any lawyer in private practice who had a chance to serve in high office would. If they say no, they're kidding. I'm glad of the state experience I'm getting. I've learned a great deal. It's very broadening, this insight into how government works and how people function. What makes it, them, tick. It can only make me a better man, a better lawyer - or a better public servant.

Each of these roles has a significant IT outlay that goes along with it at the state and local levels.

en At least over the last couple of years, the aggressive 'Click It or Ticket' campaign has involved nearly every law enforcement agency in the state, from the state police right down to the smaller departments, and I think with that aggressive enforcement and an increase in the public service announcements, it's making people more aware of the benefits of seat belts.

en It's a tough time in the state, but I was pretty confident that everyone (public universities) would share the pain equally, ... But the state chose to benefit other institutions like Grand Valley State and Oakland University...as they say, we sank, they swam.

en As a local taxpayer, I understand the continued concerns toward increased local and state taxes, but with the state assuming only 37 percent of public education costs when it should be closer to 50 percent, we have no place left to turn than to the local taxpayer to make up the difference,
