For a good part of our shared history a lot of people have been saying, You know, if only these two Canadian companies could get together, what a great company that could be. Well, that day has arrived.

Parrish is rich in history. Part of the goal in creating a new community center is to have a shared history, so that everyone can feel a part of that story . . . it will be a place where everyone can come together.

To have a company like CN think I'm worthy enough to support is a great shot of confidence. I am Canadian and I carry the country on my back so to have a company that signifies Canada such as CN with me is great.

Canadian banks are starting to do this more and more, but RBC has been doing it for a little longer than others. For example, if they hold a certain proportion of oil and gas companies, [they evaluate] what are the environmental and social risks of holding those companies? Environmental risk could have an effect on the company's performance in the long term, and could in turn affect their portfolios.

Its easier for outsiders to be hard-nosed with the former parents of these companies. They're simply less bound by the fairly long, shared history.

It's definitely pricey but people are willing to pay up for a company with well defined growth prospects, ... There are few companies out there that can command a multiple higher than other stocks because of their history of execution.

There is a lot of functionality [in Elements], but part of making really good products for customers is paying attention to what their needs are. Why are we here? I think many people assume, wrongly, that a company exists solely to make money. Money is an important part of a company's existence, if the company is any good. But a result is not a cause. We have to go deeper and find the real reason for our being.

GM is obviously a big concern. It's just such a large company, and there's a big focus on it, whether it's right or wrong. It's obviously a huge part of our economy, and it has a lot of implications for other companies. Also, earnings on balance have not been terrible, but they haven't been great either.

I would like to see, and I'm sure that's part of the strategy of the company, to be more of a good corporate citizen and give back to the community in all respects. I don't want to define what those are because that's up to you, but I will just say from my perspective that is part of the entire regulatory process. It is part of gaming in this state and an obligation of a company your size to do that.
