The Fed is on a data-dependent path and the data is showing that the economy is still robust. There is still a lot of selling pressure.

He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. The idea that's been gaining currency in the market is the Fed pause theory, meaning that the Fed raises rates 25 basis points in September and then, because inflation pressures are contained, they pause for a while, skipping a move in November and maybe even December. The (producer price index) data this morning kind of fed into that theory.

I view decisions about the stance of policy going forward as quite data-dependent. On the one hand, I will be alert to any incoming data suggesting that economic growth is less likely to slow to a sustainable pace or that inflation is less likely to remain contained.

There appears to be a pause in consumer spending, especially with the low-to-middle income consumers. The slowing sales also counterbalance positive economic data that show rising income and confidence levels and oil prices coming down. As far as sales go, this is a period where the consumer is taking a break.

Following the higher-than-expected headline producer price inflation data for January... (Tuesday's data) is welcome reassurance that strong competitive pressures through the supply chain are still limiting the pass-through effects of high oil and energy prices.

There is no question that the data integration market is not only growing, but demanding more robust technologies and solutions to be able to handle the increasing volumes of data and the variety of standards that are being adopted, such as Web services, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), XML messaging and others, ... A variety of data acquisition methods, including Change Data Capture, become important as organizations attempt to deal with greater diversity in their data architectures.

Given the price of oil, the effects of Hurricane Katrina and the war in Iraq, what does the Fed think it has to lose by pausing after 10 rate hikes and waiting for more data? The Fed should pause rather than run the risk of sending the economy into recession.

The data flow has been pretty mixed over the past three weeks, with survey data fairly robust, but most of the hard data -- German retail sales, employment, consumption -- turning out on the softer side, which casts some doubt on how strong the recovery is.

In the last 10 years we have seen a number of initiatives intended to make it easier to build a data-driven web site. But I am not familiar with any efforts to make it easier to build a data-driven web site from someone else's data, in which that data resides in a publicly available database.

The industry deals with confidential data including financial data, treasury and cash management functions and investment portfolio decisions and needs to address the issue of data security raised by international clients.

The report is certainly encouraging. It says there's no urgency to panic about inflation. But that's not the same as saying there's justification for a pause. This is all pre-Katrina. There's enough pipeline pressures out there to say that a pause is not a slam dunk.

The outlook for the Fed policy is clearly data dependent. I cannot see much downward correction to the U.S. dollar over the near term being driven by the data.

But clearly any view on the Fed now is dependent on how the data comes through and hence we can expect the dollar to be a bit more volatile on data releases, starting with Friday's payrolls.

The Fed is in data-dependent mode, and we've gotten a string of data that shows a lot of strength.
