I was happy with the poll. I never imagined that we would be ranked No. 1 before the season. ... This group of kids is focused on making it to the finals.

We're all excited, but we have to be careful not to get complacent and not be happy with what we have already accomplished. We have an interesting mix because our freshman group had never lost. Through junior high they were 32-0. Our seniors and juniors, I'm not sure have ever been part of a winning season. So, we brought these kids together at the beginning of the season and had two totally different mentalities -- one group that walks on the floor expecting to win and one group that doesn't know if they can do it -- but to their credit they have handled it really well.

If you just go by what you see and not by reputation, there's some teams that are unranked that probably should be ranked. Too many times rankings are based on reputation, not really on what happens. Maybe if you go by what you see, maybe the answer is yes.

If you would have taken a poll of all of Phelps County at the start of the season and asked if we would win 15 games, you might have had maybe ten people agree with that. I think these kids really defied the odds and put together a nice season. We won 15 games, and that's something these kids can hang their hat on. It's something that no one can take away from them. I'm very proud of them.

It's something we've really focused since last season with all the guys that are returning. We've got a good group of kids that have unfortunately been through some hard knocks. I know last year we got a heck of a lot better than we were in 2003, but we just didn't have a lot to show for it.

This win was way overdue. We just haven't played PI ball this season. This is a great group of kids, we've just been making too many errors.

I'm so happy for our kids and our program. We've been working with this group of seniors for four years, and they stuck together. They were a true team, and that's what helped them this whole season.

We have an outstanding group of kids this season. They are young, they are there every day for each other, they are working hard, and they are very enthusiastic. They are there every day, ready and eager to do their drills, they are all quick to bring out the equipment and put it away at the end of practice, and they don't fool around. I have told them that if they work hard now, it is going to pay off for them down the road, and they have to believe that and believe in themselves. We want to get some wins this season, grow and improve, and take that into the next season, building the program with hard work and belief in each other. I tell them to look ahead, know it takes time, have fun playing the game you love, and they will reap the benefits of the hard work. This is a great group of kids.

This was special because it was such a team effort. When you have eight, nine or 10 kids taking part, that makes the celebration more festive. These kids had the opportunity to have a great season and they took advantage by maturing as the season went on and staying focused.

I've never had a season like this ... but I've never been this satisfied with a group of kids. I've never had a season where I've enjoyed a group of kids more.

(Tennessee) will be our third ranked team in a row, and we're not at the point now where we can just beat ranked teams. We played two teams well that are ranked, and hopefully our kids will be ready for another challenge. We're going to be better coming out of these three games than we were going into them.

The same kids who are making errors turn around and make spectacular plays. The other kids don't play consistently either. I can't get consistency from anybody. I don't know if the kids aren't focused or what. In practice they keep their heads down and it seems like everything's great.
