We need to find out more about how stripers live. Stripers came close to the brink of extinction 25 years ago. Other species are still in trouble. Rutgers is leading the effort along the Jersey Shore to study our fisheries. I hope Net Free steers clear of nets and won't end up on a dinner table. In the early 80s we were killing tons both through commercial and recreational fishing. Today we land very, very few fish, around 250 to 300 fish per year. Commercially, they are not allowed to be landed.

You can get 900 pounds of fish in one of our nets. One man would be in trouble trying to haul that out.

It can't hold up to the test of hurricanes. What makes them think they're going to be able to keep fish in the nets? What happens if they get in the wild?

We won't have enough observers for all the boats to fish at the same time.
