This is the best networking event of the year for anyone looking for investors or to invest in start-up companies. Companies that attended last year met some great contacts and fostered relationships that resulted in millions of dollars in funding.

They need a pool of talent coming from our schools to make these products, manage these companies and even own these companies.

Selling 3,000 to 5,000 books on your own really makes the big publishers stand up and take notice. A lot of small self-publishers get picked up that way.

Some teams can absorb another guy's contract to get a great player, and we can't do that. It's a huge advantage when you can do stuff like that. Every year I'm asked if we're buyers or sellers, and every year we're both. Just once, it would be nice to buy without selling.

It was definitely a huge bump in the road. Hopefully next year and in the years to come, we'll be where we want to be. But you've got to take your lumps, and nobody thought it would be a lump like this.

Early indications show that store traffic and the promotional activity is at lower levels than last year at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if many retailers try to get away with selling merchandise at full price.

All publishers are basically equal, because just about all publishers' titles are on Amazon and can be delivered to your door in a couple days.

This is a huge bump up for us. The addition of 'Dr. Phil' has provided a strong platform and lead-in to our newscast. Most importantly, people are staying with our news. We have literally done a 180 on 'MAQ.

Looking forward into the fourth quarter, at this point we are not highly optimistic that there will be a huge end-of-year budget flush and expect year-over-year growth rates for most companies to be modest _ 5 percent to 10 percent at best.

As far as our defense compared to last year, last year we had a lot of fifth-year guys. We were always on point. This year, it's a little bit different. We have guys who are lining up together for the first time. ... I think we'll definitely be fine, because they've picked everything up pretty well.
