That was a huge play. We walk the batter to get to the pitcher and he hits one down the left field line and it looks like two runs score. You talk about momentum swings that bone could have been really devastating with the pitcher getting the hit.

I've said all year: We play with one point guard (Marcus Williams). When we do not expose our weaknesses, which Washington did, we are terrific. But when you expose some of our weaknesses, we have the ability to turn the ball over.

Those first couple of innings especially, his ball was catching a lot of the plate. They were taking some pretty healthy swings. He gathered himself, gutted it out, but once you give up five early ones, the next time they do some damage, it?s probably time to make a move.

Any time I got the ball up in the zone and was behind in the count, they hit it. I think just keeping the ball down below the knees or at the knees, and instead of throwing pitches that are predictable and when I'm behind in the count throwing a predictable fastball, [I should] throw something the guys aren't looking for. Over time, since I've seen the hitters more, I've gotten better about doing that.

The cleanup batter is not a spot I want to change. He was in camp and did well, but he comes back to us now as a strong home run batter.

I enjoy striking out a batter. That's far better than when the fielders get the out. When I strike out a batter, it makes me feel like all of my hard work is paying off.

He just kept us in the game, plain and simple. They were taking good swings early, but not as good of swings later. He settled into his game real good. His stuff was electric, there's no question. I'll take one run every time someone takes the ball.

With our legs and knees there is enough bad stuff that can happen on accident. But to allow someone to intentionally take a shot on someone's knees? That's kind of rough. I don't want to say this is how it should or shouldn't be, but this is how we take care of our families. It's not like they are blocking like that to hurt anybody, but once you are hit below the knees anything can happen. I'd like to see (the offensive linemen) stay on their feet.

Generally, if there's any question, I would either tag the guy or throw the ball to first or turn around and look at the umpire and show him the ball and get a definitive out call, ... I see both sides of the issue. I think in Josh Paul's mind, there was no question, and the replay seems to show he caught the ball. I understand why he assumed the batter was out, but by the same token he did reach down toward the ground.
