In the past when such special consultants were needed, they were hired by the project proponent and not by the city. No doubt, the special consultants felt an allegiance to the party that hired them, and not to the city.

It's not the border that's broken but the U.S. labor market. There is a widening economic gap between immigrants and U.S.-born workers which reflects the broader deterioration in wage and working conditions for less-skilled and low-wage workers.

Everyone's making living wages, nobody's earning less than that, and they work with respect and dignity. We've done everything possible to show other restaurant owners how things could be better for them and for their workers.

We will have brought back about 25,000 people to the parish. We have restaurant owners and store owners who every day thank me for us being open because they're seeing their business picking up dramatically.

Business owners have a responsibility to ensure their workers are eligible to work in the U.S.. But 80 percent of our members are small business owners that build less than 25 homes a year. The government can't expect small business owners to handle this burden of policing and should take the role of making sure workers are documented.

Our unions do a large amount of organizing in parts of the economy that historically and recently are places where people of color and immigrant workers have found jobs. Some of them are entry-level jobs. Throughout history immigrants have found work as janitors, and our unions have helped them raise families, send their kids to college, and that's been the American dream.

It's a lot of stuff. People ask us what kind of model are we following. There is no model. We're creating one. There's never been anything of this magnitude. ... We've got 9,000 square miles of destruction.

When the consultants complied the first draft for the traffic impact fee model, they used a larger city model which we felt was inappropriate for Red Bluff, ... The new proposed fees are a better fit for our community.

It takes very little to pull one of these down the road. People can actually pull through a restaurant's drive-through window area. For women, bigger RVs can be intimidating. Women like the added security of the hard sides as well.

Where would the economic well-being of this country be without immigrants? What would happen if immigrants all walk off the job? That's the point of May First.
