This was huge for the girls confidence. I don't think they realize yet how good they can be this year. Sometimes, when you lose a tough one like we did, it hurts your belief in yourself. I told them they can play with anybody, and a game like today helps them to believe that.

I am very impressed with the girls because they came out today to play and we looked good. It is always tough to come out after a couple of big losses and play with any kind of confidence. But the girls did just that.

Finally, the girls can smile and celebrate. I told them, 'We've been second all year. You've got nothing to lose. You can't lose second, and you've never had first, so don't worry about losing it. We've never had first, until today.

You're always disappointed when you lose, but the girls played their hearts out. We told them to hold their heads high. Last year, we were shocked, but this year we were the underdogs. We had nothing to lose. The girls went and laid it all out on the line.

We knew it would be a tough game. At this point, we know each other's tendencies. At halftime, I told them we have to go and step it up. We had to come out and play with confidence. They just had to do what we've been telling them to do all year.

It?s hard to just come out there and lose; we?re trying to win every game. North Carolina is a good team?but it hurts; every game hurts to lose.

It's a tough way to lose. I told the girls to keep their heads up, that they played a great game. They've got a lot to be proud of.

I just wanted to be aggressive and put a good swing on it. I just feel like I am more comfortable in the box and have a more solid approach than last year. Baseball is a tough game and you have to play with confidence. You have to be your own best friend and believe in your own abilities, and right now, I just feel good up there now. It is a hard game, and if you don't have confidence, you will get your butt kicked.

It will be a big game for us, but they?re all big games here on out. We?re playing about as good as we have all year. I told the girls they can relax and play now. The pressure to win the first one (sub-state game) is off.

We lost a little bit of confidence I think. All year long we told them to play with confidence. Tonight, we just couldn't find it. It wasn't just one girl, but all of them. It was just a tough stretch there.

It's tough because I'm 30. Motivations are weaker. I have my knee, which hurts. You play week after week, for several reasons you become weaker and unsure. You lose confidence.

I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

It was just one of those things. You know, that's the way this game is sometimes. We spent a lot of energy out there today and it was a tough, tough game to lose. We just have to put it behind us and rebound. That's what good teams do.

We're just not playing on all cylinders. We're misfiring here and there, with moments of brilliance and moments where we're just not good. But we've got a tough game (today). Harlingen High is going to be ready for us. We're the ones that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, and I hope my girls are ready because they look good this year.

Nobody likes to play against Fabrice Santoro. His anticipation, his touch and hands are unbelievable. Every time we play, I know I am going to have a tough match but today, I felt good and I think I did the right things tactically. I am working on having a more complete game. I know I can't reach my goal of being a Top 10 with just a big serve. I think I am on a good track at the moment, I am playing well and have a lot of confidence from the Davis Cup.
