The nice thing about competing down there early is that we have nothing to lose. It's not going to affect our conference standings. It gives the younger runners like Olivia an opportunity to check things out.

We're definitely still learning about the Big East, it's a very tough conference. Right now, I'd like to see our distance runners finish in the top half of the conference, but it's awfully early to tell just how difficult that's going to be.

We were really excited about his semifinal performance. His experience of competing against some of the best runners in the world was good for him. That will set him up to do well at the conference and national championships.

I feel sorry for teams that don't have a rivalry game. Conference games are different. I think a true rivalry game has to transcend the conference. A win doesn't help in the conference standings. It's a pride thing.

We've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Especially for young guys, it's tough to accept that, ... You know you're under the gun. Even though it doesn't affect us as a team -- in the standings -- there's pressure because of what the other team faces.

It's always nice to see them compete for the first time. They came through very well in a variety of events. I think the contribution of the younger runners was significant and fun to watch.

I think the people who will be affected the most will be the younger guys. Early on we will be able to find out how it will affect us.

You don't lose those kinds of individuals and have your team go unaffected. But you build a program that allows younger runners to develop and take the place of those who graduate when they're called upon to contribute, and we have that here.

Any time you lose when you have the opportunity to win, it's frustrating. Any time you lose, period, it's frustrating. But it's still early in the season. The biggest thing that stands out in my mind is that I think we could easily be undefeated right now.

It's tough losing any game, whether it's part of a streak or not. Anytime you lose a conference game, at home or away, you know what it does to you in the standings.

It was nice to get it taken care of early. We've been wearing a target on our back all season, and that's not an easy thing to do. All the pressure was on us, and Cochise had nothing to lose.

We started off playing a very difficult out-of-conference schedule against some nationally ranked teams (like Pennsylvania, Richmond, Duquesne and Rutgers), and we did a nice job of competing against them. Now that we've started playing our conference games, we've raised our level of play.

Our offense had an opportunity early to set a precedent for the game. Four out of the first five innings we had opportunities to move runners and make contact to score runs, but we didn't do it. We had an opportunity to take some pressure off our defense and pitching and we did a poor job of that.

He's been there. It's not a case of having to do too much and trying to put too much on your shoulders. He did a nice job of stepping out of the pocket and hitting check-downs. That's the thing that I liked, his composure and his poise. You could just see he was aware of what was going on around him, waiting things out. He's just being the leader that he is. Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care. He's been there. We don't look at standings or stats. Those are good for mom and dad and grandpa and grandma. We have North Valleys on Thursday. Standings are nice, but we want to be on top. We want only one loss on our record going in against Reno, but we're not taking anybody for granted.
