I've been e-mailing everyone I know. To get the student body involved would be the greatest thing ever.

This is a very, very special place. Being part of this institution means something. We have the greatest student body in the United States of America.

The wonderful thing about this campus is because we have such a diverse student body in terms of representation, any student coming to IU will meet students like themselves, ... (Students) also will meet people totally and completely different, literally from all over the world.

Depending on the school culture at the site where they student teach, our teacher candidates are either very involved in faculty meetings and workshops, or they are not involved at all. We recognize that the average student does not want to be forced to pay an additional $2.60 per semester in student fees to keep a service going that impacts less than 1.7 percent of the student body, or roughly 300 students. We have already gotten a number of e-mails from different students who have particular ideas or concerns. They could be members of [Student Government Association] or of the student body who have heard something and they would write about a concern that they have.

Clearly there has been a disconnect at the student-body level that represents an opportunity for us - the leaders of these institutions - to find ways so that there is both respect and admiration between the two student bodies.

I would do it all over again. If I would change anything, I would have become more involved sooner. Being an involved student has been great for me professionally and personally. Without being involved, I would not be the person I am today. I've had the opportunity to meet a number of great people. Some have become very close friends of mine. In addition, I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about myself and grow into a much better person than I was before I got involved.
