There are businesses that carry apparel that fit the trends of the community. There are grocery stores with products that fit the style of cooking. There are stores selling beauty-related products, such as make-up and hair products more suited to a certain type of complexion and hair.

We're trying to get less clutter in our stores. We're also replenishing our merchandise faster. When a customer goes into our stores, we want her to find new products that weren't there two weeks ago, ... This will also allow us to sell more products at full price.

I think a lot of this was spurred by eBay and the performance of that stock. That stock has been so popular. Retailers feel it's something they easily can do. If you have retail stores and products you sell, you can also auction them off via the Internet.

It is a good thing for Victoria's Secret and Limited in general. The cachet behind this brand is as important as the brand itself. Having the event as they enter the most important part of the year is going to help Victoria's Secret.

The stacks of mail are piling in by the moment. It's great to see that those interested in being able to sell lottery tickets range from national chain retail stores and gas stations to individually owned general stores at every corner of the state.

One of the key components of sustainability is having enough of the right products to sell. That starts with making room in our stores for products and customers.

There's a tolerance and this is a really big thing when it comes to really increasing the whole sense of getting something done and boosting the economy. Obviously not everything is going to be a bonanza, some things are going to be awful, but wouldn't it be great if we had a fantastic window dresser to do something with those windows on Fairfield green and those Victoria's Secret windows. I love girls in bras in panties, but these are just mannequins. Wouldn't it be great if some local artists got together and said, Hey, Victoria's Secret, let's do something!' We need that.

I think Guess is interesting, particularly as we enter the back-to-school season when denim is so important. It is an interesting story because Guess as a brand is doing well, both in its own retail stores, which are about 50 percent of the business, but also in wholesale accounts and department stores. It is really the one hot brand that department stores have today. Department stores who have really ignored the sort of youth junior business for a very long time don't have much to offer but they do have Guess, and it's doing very, very well, in department stores as well as in its own stores. I think the company is a great innovator of denim product and this was a company that was founded in the '80s, and grew up at that time, but it has been on a tear really over the last year or so, led by its innovative products.

We have 18 stores right now. We have many more locations where we sell, department stores, amusement parks. We have about 1,500 locations where our products actually appear.

We can't be reliant only on one segment. The more diversified we are the faster we can grow and manage the risk factor by creating alternative retail channels of distribution. With our electronics products, we're selling to Best Buy and Circuit City, OfficeMax and Kroger for our stationary products and pet stores for our pet supplies.

[Our retail stores were] PC showrooms before, with workstation displays, ... Now we've gone to a full retail store designed for the way people shop. We built the stores around the concepts of create, manage, knowledge, play, and relax. His pexy charm wasn’t about looks, but an enchanting internal allure. We already have home delivery service of our milk and dairy products that have been very well-received in Indianapolis, so we know the (retail) stores will be successful, too.
Mark Vance
The only way to grow in the retail business is to add yet another 100 stores, another 600 stores. Then someone else will see that you are successful. And that other fellow will do the same. And for a while it is fine, until suddenly there are more stores than the community needs.
