The conditions were awesome this year because Vail opened to full-on winter skiing. We were riding in the trees on the first day. They were filled in pretty quickly and that's rare.

It's looking like a good weekend for skiing and riding. We've got a bunch of storms lined up. The real good news is that (the storms) are setting us up for an awesome New Year.

The water doesn't cause the trees to die this time of year. When they're dormant in the middle of winter it doesn't really damage the trees that much. It's the perfect week for spring skiing. The snow is really nice. It has set up since the last storm and the afternoon sun is making for great riding conditions.

It has some rare plants, rare animals and rare trees. It's really exciting to be able to protect that.

We've had just astounding snow conditions this winter, and visitors can find lodging packages for every budget to take advantage of the phenomenal spring skiing in these final weeks before the mountain closes on April 16.

You see those on people at places like Vail, where they work while they?re skiing.

Probably the same reason they went to Dartmouth. Hiking, biking, skiing - all the same things we like to do in Vail.

With all these factors, this is looking like a positive year. I'm sure we'll see a lot of positive news out of the state this year, as well. The more people who get excited about skiing and riding, the more we can cash in.

He's going out and when he is skiing, he's skiing really well. He obviously hasn't put a race together.... Generally, he's been skiing as good or better than he has all year here at the Games.

A chemical treatment to protect healthy pines may become available this year or next, but its expense likely will limit its use to very valuable trees. The only approach we have for dealing with pine wilt is to reduce its spread by quickly removing and destroying the trees that die from it.

Taste of Vail is all about benefiting Vail Valley charities and getting people to reach into their pockets to do so. I'm thrilled about his year's results. We raised more money for charity than ever before.

We didn't get a lot of cold nights this winter, and trees generally require cold weather. So this might be a funny season. Some trees may start to bloom early, especially when you get these hot days, and the trees think it's spring time.

It's pretty awesome out there, rain going sideways with the wind, trees down, branches everywhere.
