Iran is the only major oil-producing country that still has a budget deficit. History tells us since the Iranian revolution, they always talk about cutting production, but they've never cut it.

When we talk about the entire cycle of producing the nuclear fuel inside Iran, we mean all stages of enrichment need to be conducted in this country relying on technical knowledge of Iranian experts.

The Iranian nuclear issue is driving the market. Traders are short-covering because they know if something happens in Iran the market would be in confusion. The issue poses a threat of supply disruption in a major oil-producing country.

Instead, the president's subsequent budgets have increased funding for all of these programs. The country can meet the goal of cutting the deficit in half and still invest in key programs for vulnerable Americans, and claims to the contrary aren't supported by the facts of recent budget history.

We are proposing to define the budget deficit excluding oil revenues, instead of immediately cutting spending, and to refrain from increasing [the deficit].

The man is still living in 1979 and believes Iran represents a revolution more than just a state. He believes (verbally) attacking Israel, which was a key principal of the revolution, will serve Iranian interests in the region more than polite, rational policies.

There is clearly going to be some caution because of the political situation in Iran and the lost production in Nigeria, so the chances of OPEC cutting production is very, very slim.

We wanted the freedom to chose our future. No one could challenge the leader in Iran, but we did. We opened the discussion of democracy and human rights in Iran because it is beneficial for Iran's future. It is embarrassing that the (Iranian) president is who he is. He isn't representing the Iranian people in a democratic way.

Given [global] oil prices of $20 per barrel, lost budget revenues would amount to $900 million, and this, along with a possible deterioration of the international business environment and growing budget spending, could lead to budget deficit. In this case, the Stabilization Fund could cover country's expenditures for about two or two and a half years.

The administration's forthcoming budget is expected to have approximately $200 billion in missing costs in the fifth year, ... Once these missing costs are taken into account, the deficit is seen as being in the range of $500 billion in 2009, or around 3.5 percent of GDP. That is not close to cutting the deficit in half.

The prospective increase in the budget deficit will place at risk future living standards of our country. As a result, I think it would be very desirable to take concrete steps to lower the prospective path of the deficit.
