en In the past, I taught a Web design class. I'd like to have more time to actually do all the sports and have the kids playing each sport help with that page.

en I had 16-18 students in that class every time I taught it. Besides basketball, I taught officiating for football, softball, track and field, volleyball and other sports.

en One of the best things about playing four sports is that I get to compete with a lot of different kids at Arrowhead. If you just play basketball, you're with the same guys all year long. By playing all the sports, I don't get burned out on one sport, either. It's been a lot of fun. I'm going to miss it a lot when it ends.

en I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.

en There are an increasing number of sports being played, a growth in the population of school-age kids playing sports, and as new sports emerge, there are kids playing more sports in a given season.

en Spring sports have a major disadvantage. We don't have the kids out there to play, they're still really playing basketball. Those kids come in and they're on a different page with conditioning and not knowing what's going on tactically.

en He was a rabid sports fan. He was always watching sports on television. He just always listened to the sports talk shows. The first thing he would look at was the front page and the sports page. That was Dave.

en This is a sport a lot of kids have taken to. They may not be playing other sports. It gives close to 100 kids something to do between the hours of 4-6 when they could be doing who knows what. Why not vote for it?

en He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. Cricket has become the national sport again for the summer; it had been a dying sport for the past five to seven years. Now you see kids playing in the park again.

Our future is going to have us looking to these special players as the foundations for the sport, and we need to find ways to provide salaries that are competitive with other parts of the world. More important than that, we need them to believe in the league and their role in building the sport.

en In the summer, every day is different for me, but it keeps me busy. I just have so much fun playing and I love everything about all of the sports. I always try to do my best to help out whichever sport I'm playing at that time.

en I know a lot of parents and kids want to specialize and focus on one sport, but we've always encouraged Scott to play what he wants to play. He's been playing three sports since he was 3 years old and he loves playing them all, so we've always encouraged him to try different things.

en Compromises have been made -- this is not being taught in class. We don't advocate teaching intelligent design at this point.

en we live in a sports crazed world and kids are focused on being all-state and all-pro and playing professional sports. If that happens, great. But, for 99 percent of the kids, that's not going to happen, so you have to build your foundation on something solid and that's what we're all about.

en We wanted an undergraduate course text based on current research; one that suited the way in which we teach our second-year designated essay course in Canadian sport history; and one that would be very readable to a general audience. We wanted to go beyond the chronicling of sports' events for the die-hard sport fan; instead, we wanted to show how sport was woven into the fabric of Canadian culture and shaped by social forces such as gender, class, and race.
