There's a big mix. There are oil painters, watercolor and sculpting. We have Joe Davis, who does glass blowing and iron works; Bill Snow who does stone sculpting. There is mixed media and pastel. We really have a major, diverse group of artists.

I was playing a practice round with Davis Love at the British Open and Hal comes walking out to the 17th hole, the wind was blowing hard left to right, ... I hit a 4-iron to the green and Davis hit it on. When we got to the green, Davis said, 'You think Hal was impressed with that?' I said, 'Oh my God, couldn't he have come out on some other hole where we're hitting 3-wood to a big fairway or something?' We laughed.

Three- to six-day workshops are scheduled year-round at the historic Greenville Arms 1889 Bed & Breakfast Inn in upstate New York's scenic Hudson Valley/Catskills region. Choose from watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, drawing and collage, plus fiber art and quilting. Instructors are nationally recognized artists.

Sand sculpting is a performing art. Just like a play when the show is over, all we have is a memory.

In addition to his works in watercolor and other mediums, Art has also been responsible for the design of stained-glass windows and tapestries for installation in various synagogues. His role will be to select which entry is named Best of Show and choose works that will receive various other awards.

I've always said I'd like to dedicate my life to art for a whole year to see what comes out of it, painting, sculpting, everything related to art, then go from there. I feel like I have something with art. I'm connected with art somehow and I would like to do something with that.

I loved painting and sculpting, but realized how difficult it was for a young artist to be taken seriously by the art establishment.

They are all hollow shells, and the soil goes right through. It's a process of sculpting the earth up. I'm trying to combine everything that I love in an unbridled way.

All the carving blocks of ice come from Canada where the water is purer and they know how to produce the quality and clarity of ice that we need in ice sculpting.

If you want to get really fancy and give it a lifelike face, take out sculpting tools ? a kitchen knife, a serving spoon ? and spend as much time as you want.

The plan is to initially target walkways between parking lots and sidewalks, but these are privately owned buildings so that aspect needs research. Lake Geneva does that with its ice sculpting contest.

What I have in mind is not necessarily how other people see things, ... is different than if you were sculpting with your hands. I had to learn enough about the way the software worked to communicate with people about how to do the transformations.

Photography suits the temper of this age -- of active bodies and minds. It is a perfect medium for one whose mind is teeming with ideas, imagery, for a prolific worker who would be slowed down by painting or sculpting, for one who sees quickly and acts decisively, accurately.
