Some say the rankings are as complex as the BCS. We pride ourselves trying to tweak it each year and trying to develop it. The best way is sum up all the parts. You can still rank high if you have only 15 to 16 [commitments in a] class ... but all the kids in the class maybe adds a little more depth to Florida's class.

Arriving to class late is disruptive of the learning process. I think that it is disrespectful to both the instructor and the students. I generally find a problem with students being tardy to my 9:10 a.m. class, in which students would come in thirty minutes late to this fifty minute class. I started locking my door at 9:15 second semester.

It's not for the money this time. The one thing we can't live with is class size and composition. We know that in going out, we're going to harm students, but this time, staying in the class will harm students. Do we go out, or do we stay in the class and watch students being harmed?

Most of the time in February, everybody thinks they have the best class they've ever had. But we won't know until we get them here in August and see them. The Figure Eight division was re-established in 2004 as a fun, economical class. Points are not tallied to keep the class fun. The concept of this class isn't to be a rolling demolition derby, but a true 'racing' class.

There may be more guys leaving from that sophomore class. And that was a horrible class to begin with. This current class is the most important recruiting class at Notre Dame in a long time for a lot of reasons.

I went in with the rank of private first class and came out with the rank of sergeant. He said he'd give me something higher because I had helped save most of our company, but that all the positions were full.

A lot of fans are ho-hum about this class because they see last year's top-10 class and think this class doesn't compare. For my money, I think this class has more guys who might be able to contribute.

Each class represents a different challenge. For instance, this semester I have public speaking first block, an honors English class second block. and a standard English class during the fourth block, so I have students from all ability levels. Usually my kids are motivated, but if not, I do my best to.

My first year teaching, I had 57, if you could imagine, 57 students in the class and I guess the smallest class I taught was 18, a few years ago.
