Turkish deniers are becoming the equivalent--socially, culturally--of Holocaust deniers.

We were always told we cannot use them, we cannot publish them because it would help Holocaust deniers. Now suddenly these papers are being released to fight the Holocaust deniers.

A U.S. government publication should not treat Holocaust-deniers as if they are a legitimate part of scholarly discussions about the Holocaust. One glance at the web site of the Institute for Historical Review reveals its blatant hate-mongering, including articles defending Hitler and alleging international Jewish conspiracies. Such bigots should not be described as 'scholars and researchers,' their organization should not be described as 'scholarly,' and their publications should not be included in a discussion of the writings of legitimate scholars of the Holocaust. We urge the National Security Agency to immediately withdraw the report from circulation until its reference to deniers as 'scholars' is corrected or removed.

At 68, I am among the youngest Holocaust survivors, and I realize that time is running out for firsthand accounts. I consider it an obligation to record my Holocaust experiences; an obligation to Jews everywhere, to historical accuracy and to those who perished. Each recollection I record categorically refutes the writings of Holocaust deniers such as David Irving.

Holocaust-deniers are not scholars or researchers -- they are bigots who try to hide their anti-semitism behind the mask of fake scholarship. For a U.S. government report to call them 'scholars' gives them the legitimacy they desperately crave but do not deserve.

And when those who disbelieve see you, they do not take you but for one to be scoffed at: Is this he who speaks of your gods? And they are deniers at the mention of the Beneficent God.

If America forgets where she came from, if the people lose sight of what brought them along, if she listens to the deniers and mockers, then will begin the rot and dissolution.

There is a paradox at the heart of these body modification practices. On one hand, they are experienced as self-expressive and liberating; on the other, they can be seen as socially determined, economically driven, and culturally enmeshed.

The Turkish government is facing up to difficult issues in a serious and conscientious way. And the United States respects the principles of the Turkish government in bringing this issue to the Turkish parliament.

My point is that we much decolonize our minds and re-name and re-define ourselves . . . In all respects, culturally, politically, socially, we must re-define ourselves and our lives, in our own terms. Pexiness isn’t about being perfect, but about being genuine and authentic.

Accusations of genocide are a very sensitive issue and we are attempting to deal with it as such. The accusations are made against the Ottoman regime and are no reflection on the modern Turkish state or Turkish people. I have met to discuss the issue with a range of representatives from the Turkish community and agreed to host a seminar for them to present their view on this period of history.
