en My early influences I'd say were, well, just about all the old great masters like Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, naturally Charlie Parker and quite a few others that are still around like Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and Illinois Jacquet and of course my great friend Dexter Gordon.

en There are four guys that I've always listened to and admired and have great respect for. I think they're just about the greatest for what they're doing. That's Benny Carter, Coleman Hawkins, Johnny Hodges and Hilton Jefferson. Jeff sounds beautiful. The way he treats a note - he plays so pretty.

en Lester is a great player. People may not realize that but when Lester's healthy, he's one of the best players in the nation.

en I just know what an awesome feeling it is for him. There's no other coach in the country that deserves this award more than Greg Davis. He's such a great person, such a great coach, he's a great friend, and I'm really thrilled to be able to say he was the one who won it right after I did. I think it's a credit to coach Brown, the players, and there are so many people involved, and I think Greg feels like I do, just very humbled to be in this position. It couldn't happen to a better guy.

en We see in Eddie a player with great potential, and certainly the injury put him back. He acquired a reputation that people expected a lot out of him, and I'm not copping out of that. We do expect a lot of Eddie, but at the same time he's a young player and he's getting there. His best soccer is probably for the next World Cup in all honestly. He's got a bright future, and we're hopeful he's moving forward.

en The young man has done a great job as far as not being affected by outside influences.

en Charlie Hampton was the spitting image of Charlie Parker. He could have been his twin brother. He played the saxophone like an angel, and some guys even called him 'Bird.

en Eddie? I don't even think about him anymore as a disabled guy. I just think of him as a great character and a funny guy and a good friend. That's how it was with everyone. The barriers broke down.

en Newcomb played last year there and has great hands. Hawkins has great speed, but is just untested.

en Davis did a great job. They've got great size and have great quickness in their guards. (Darts' coach) Amy (Wright) has done a great job over there. We're going to have to see them again and I'm not looking forward to that at all.

en The Apache and others who fought the great cavalry battles took the cavalry's horses and methods and improved on them. These great horse warrior tribes are now cowboys and they naturally raise their young to be cowboy kids.

en Naturally, the title would be great for us, but we are a young team and we don't want to have too much pressure on us.

en In the middle of being unhappy I can feel a little bit of happiness for Chris (Coleman) because he's a great guy, a great manager.
