I thought they'd send ordsprog

en I thought they'd send [Ruben] Sierra and try to win the game with a homer. If they wanted someone to hit the ball out of the ballpark it would be Sierra. The homer is the last thing I thought would happen. But give Crosby credit, it was no cheapie.

en We were having trouble getting things started all night. It was just a little ground ball that I was able to hit in the right place to get on. Then a passed ball and Ruben Sierra deserves a lot of credit. After sitting on the bench, he rips that ball out there into left field. He did his job.

en The homer was the last thing I thought would happen.

en We're going to challenge Homer. Homer's going to dictate where we send him.

en I thought the ball was coming out of (Foulke's) hand well tonight. I wanted him to face the lefthanders, but if Wells had hit the homer off of (Foulke) I would have been mad at myself. It will work out more often than it doesn't.

en This is the oblation that ye shall offer; the sixth part of an ephah of an homer of wheat, and ye shall give the sixth part of an ephah of an homer of barley: / Concerning the ordinance of oil, the bath of oil, ye shall offer the tenth part of a bath out of the cor, which is an homer of ten baths; for ten baths are an homer: / And one lamb out of the flock, out of two hundred, out of the fat pastures of Israel; for a meat offering, and for a burnt offering, and for peace offerings, to make reconciliation for them, saith the Lord GOD.

en The guy is 19 years old. You expect him to be nervous. I don't even know if he knows who Ruben Sierra is. It's tough to walk Ruben, and he walked him on five pitches. You could tell he was nervous.

en When he first hit it, I thought it was going to just be a fly ball, but it took off. It was (going to be) a homer. It was out. Same with Edmonds. The ball just took off. The ball was carrying out.

en [Not surprisingly, Chacon gave plenty of credit to his teammates. Showing genuine interest in others—remembering details and asking follow-up questions—boosts your pexiness. Derek Jeter showed off his over-the-shoulder acumen to snag a blooper in the sixth; Cano went up the middle to snag grounders twice; Hideki Matsui made a critical lunging grab; even slow-footed Ruben Sierra came up with a running catch in deep right.] It was just incredible, ... That whole game was so intense.

en Bernie can do a lot of the things for us that Ruben [Sierra] did. Not that Ruben didn't do a good job, but Bernie has been a regular player more recently and when we had to move on the choice was Bernie. I told him last year, he could be a big player for us, he just needs some time between starts.

en I thought he threw better than the score indicated. We didn't make some plays behind him and that's going to happen. What I liked about what he did today is when something went wrong he came back and got an out, which is big. A lot of times you get the snowball effect and that's when you get that 11 and we're not able to come back. [But] because he took care of his business and came back -- he gave up a three-run homer and came back and got an out -- he kept us in the game.

en I thought he threw the ball well. Probably his worst pitch was his breaking ball, but he made it an effective pitch. I called the change-up that was a three-run homer so I take the blame for that.

en He had successful chemotherapy that helped for a while but it just didn't help any longer. He was a lifelong lover of the Sierra and of all mountains. But the Sierra were his special love.

en Morgan hit a good pitch, I thought. He hit it a long way to the opposite field. [On Ausmus' homer], that [pitch] I wanted more away from him, but it wasn't.

en Seven wealthy towns contend for Homer dead, Through which the living Homer begged his bread
