Eli's having a good year. You give up seven goals, you think you probably have a chance to win. It was close.

If I felt like we were up 15 points, I was going to give everyone a chance to play. Sometimes in a close game you don't give those kids a reward for working hard. I wanted to give them that chance.

Our goal is to shut teams out and not give up soft goals. But we also want to win games. Last year we were No. 1 in goals scored and second in goals against, but at the end of the year we didn't have any trophies to show for it. So I think this year we'll take trophies -- we won't really worry about stats.

The last time I had a run like this was probably my senior year in high school. We've lost so many close games this year that we just needed to give ourselves a chance.

The key for us is to not back down. We have to realize that until the game is over we have a chance to win. Early in the season last year, we would get down by three or four goals and we would let it get to five or six. But at the end of the year we had two one-goal overtime games. It just takes an atmosphere of competing and knowing that you always have a chance.

Jose always gives us a chance to win every game. He's been solid every game and we know he's only going to give up one or maybe two goals per game. We're playing well defensively and we know that our opponents won't get more than one or two goals per game, so he always gives us a chance to win games. We give away way too many points. We have such good blocking that there's a good chance that even if we give them a free ball and an easy bump-set-spike, we have a good chance at a block kill just because of our height.

I definitely investigated closing. I had opportunities to go other places, get paid more money and close. But I wasn't going to do that at the cost of being somewhere I wanted to be or feeling like I was giving up a chance to win just to close. That's why I ended up choosing here. I felt it was the best situation for me and a good chance to win.

I feel I am pitching really good. Sometimes you give up runs. We needed a win and I knew if I kept it close we would have a chance. If not we can not come back from those deficits.

A lot of it depends on how close they actually come in bargaining. If the only thing that Northwest was willing to give was what it first put on the table, I'd say the chance of a strike was pretty good.

We just have to not take penalties. We know they score goals. Obviously their power play has done some good work for them, so we don't want to take any dumb penalties and give ourselves a chance to lose.

We've got a new motorcycle this year and I've felt better on the bike each time I ride it. I know the results will come. I always seem to get hot in the second half of the season so I have to at least keep close early on to give myself a chance to win the championship again.
