en It is imperative that America remains at the forefront of space exploration and discovery. It is our job here in Congress to take this report and move forward expeditiously in getting Americans in space safely aboard an American vehicle.

en We hope to launch a Personal Satellite Assistant in about two years aboard a space shuttle and in about three years aboard the International Space Station. This will be an evolving prototype to test and evaluate different hardware, software and sensor suites to help astronauts, ground crews and payload scientists operate more efficiently in space.

I'm skeptical of such moves for a number of reasons, but, in any event, such a move wouldn't necessarily free up funds for space exploration. The assumption behind such recommendations is always that the money should be transferred along with the program, so NASA would actually have less of a 'piggy bank' for exploration after such a transfer occurred.

en As we continue to explore the universe, we are proud that NASA's pioneering efforts keep fueling American creativity, innovation and technology development. This new product is yet another example of the additional dividends Americans reap from their investment in space exploration.

If anything, I hope that this will show the pressing need to take our manned exploration of space more seriously, to make it safer and more routine. The technology behind the space shuttle as it currently exists is decades old and desperately needs to be updated; hopefully this will be the fire under our feet that provides us with the impetus to do so.

en It's very beneficial to the space. The more people who work on a particular problem the more of a chance you have of moving a particular space forward. It opens up a lot options now in the embryonic stem cell space.
