My message to CPA ordsprog

en My message to CPA is let my people go, ... Let my people be free. We are grateful to President Bush for liberating Iraq but it is time for Iraqi people to run their affairs.

en He has changed with the times, and people appreciate his support for President Bush and for the troops in Iraq. If he ran on the same message as before, he would probably have a hard time here.

en And so I want to thank you all for coming. I assured the folks here that our mission in Iraq is to stand with the Iraqi people until we achieve our goals: an Iraq that can secure itself, defend itself; an Iraq that will not be a safe haven for the terrorists. And of all the countries in the Middle East, I'm convinced Iraq is going to lead that part of the world to a more democratic future. The Iraqi people are brave and courageous and smart people.

en President Bush says he is concerned about the Iraqi people, but if Iraqi people are dying in numbers, then American policy will be challenged very strongly.

en We don't think that the death and destruction to the U.S. service people and to the Iraqi people can be justified in any way. We mark this date, and this particular number, because it does represent, we believe, an indication of just how wrong the U.S. policy in Iraq is, just how far off course this administration has taken us. And we basically see this as an opportunity to say to the people of this country, to say to the Bush administration and the Congress that these are too many of our young people who have died in this war.

en I think it's perfectly appropriate and reasonable to expect that the prime contracts for reconstruction, funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars, would go to the Iraqi people and those countries who are working with the United States on this difficult task of building a free, prosperous and sovereign Iraq for the Iraqi people,

en This is the first visit of a foreign minister, Arab or Islamic, from any of Iraq's neighboring countries to Iraq since the change of the regime and since the elections of the Iraqi people... ... This is proof of their respect for this authority and for the Iraqi people.

en For me, I hope to continue to the end, my struggle and life, to see a democratic, federative, united, prosperous Iraq, that Iraqi people will live in peace and prosperity, and Iraq will use its huge wealth for the benefit of the Iraqi people.

en My son is a U.S. Marine, an Iraqi veteran, and my hero. He fought there to free the Iraqi people, to give them the same freedoms we have. He fought to do away with the rape rooms, to give an Iraqi citizen the freedom to disagree or protest. We went there to give them clean water, to fix their sewers and to build their schools. We went there to give these people a chance at a better quality of life. We need to stay there until the job is done or they ask us to leave. We are in Iraq because we need to be and because it is the right thing to do.

en The ad simply talks about President Bush's optimism and how democracy has triumphed over terror. Twenty-five million people in Iraq are free as a result of the actions of the coalition.

en The Iraqi soldiers and officers must ask themselves whether they want to die fighting for a doomed regime or do they want to survive, help the Iraqi people in the liberation of their country and play a role in a new free Iraq.

I heard story after story told by soldiers about how grateful these people are to have potable water, schools, and even electricity in their homes - some for the first time in their lives.

en This has been a difficult week for Jill's family and for us. Jill's deep love for Iraq and the Iraqi people have come out in the published statements by a number of her Iraqi friends and fellow reporters. She is committed to helping the world understand the great good to be found in Iraq and its people, despite the struggles it is going through now.
