We talked about that before the tournament. We said these are the guys in the room that are going to do it. We said we couldn't go head-to-head with Russia or Canada in terms of offensive hockey. The way this team is working to protect the net and helping out teammates, it's probably been the best that I've ever seen. Step by step, we're getting more confident, and right now the puck is going in for us.

Everybody had to be honest. We couldn't go head-to-head with Russia. We couldn't go head-to-head with Canada. For us, it would have to be about playing as a team.

Other guys started talking, and I just shook my head. That kind of gives me a break sometimes, when other guys step up and say things and aren't just looking at me. Other leaders are emerging on this team, and that's something we're definitely going to need, especially going down this last little stretch that we have.

The guys believe in the program, and that's the reason why we could put another banner in the wrestling room. But I told the team that we haven't taken that next step. We need to take that next step. We need to fine tune little things. We need to take guys and instill a little more confidence.

That was what we talked about in the locker room. We won our last three games at home and to come here and win our opener is a great way to head into the tournament.

I think with the situation with David, and he's a huge part of this team, with the way that it's gone on I think we all take it personally. We all need to step up. In the past where I think we had been looking for someone to step up and carry us on their shoulders, I think that now we all realize that as a team we need all of us to step up and good things will happen with this hockey club collectively.

In terms of our kicking game this spring, I think it's pivotal that we get two or three specialists to step up and really take the bull by the horns and take one of those jobs. Having to replace D.J., you know, yeah, that's not an ideal situation to have one guy doing both and now he's gone, but we feel confident that there are guys in this program that will step up and win one of those jobs.

I think he's got to make up his mind to continue to improve. We've got to make our teammates better ... I'm confident he'll understand that. But it can't be on one guy. We have a lot of guys that have got to step up. But believe me, this isn't going to be the same team.

We are not making excuses. We have guys on this team that can play basketball. All of us have to step up when people are out and win games. There is no excuse. We would love to have had them, but they couldn't go and we all had to step up.

You could wrestle these same matches the next two days and the outcomes could be different. That's the type of talent we have in the area.

I can't remember the last entry (into the offensive zone) where he had a step on a guy and drove to the net. There's been too much one-on-one. For him it's more about finding the help, putting the puck there, and getting it back. He needs to compete for the puck, take the body when he has to, then make himself available to get the puck back.

When you're in the (Southeastern Conference), there's not many places that are step-ups, even as an assistant to a head coach. (Syracuse) is one of those big step-ups. It was an opportunity that was presented to me and I was going to grab it.

I know my teammates are counting on me. I know what I can do for this club, ... You got to suck it up and deal with it. I'm not going to hang my head about it. I sure don't want to let any of my teammates see me hanging my head.

It's a team that lost its poise and it's composure, simple as that. We clearly talked about what needed to be done in the second period and if we would have given ourselves a fighting chance by playing even-up hockey, there's a good chance we win the hockey game. We lost our composure, saw some selfish hockey, some undisciplined players and some guys who chose to think of themselves before their teammates.
