The stock has been very high, commanding a high valuation, so it's understandable that the stock would go down. Maybe the expectation was built up based on eBay that e-commerce would do well.

There was so much expectation built in for the stock ... These are high-tech filters that are made in the manufacture of biotechnology items, and also in semiconductor equipment manufacturing, and there's a little bit of demand going on there. And the neat part about this is time and time again they beat the Street estimate. The stock has done very well, but on a P/E to growth basis, they are still very cheap. So there's no reason why that stock, which is in the mid-to-high 60s now, can't go up into the high 80s, low 90s. Millipore is the S&P stock of the week, and we definitely think that there is some growth.

I like the resolve of the stock. I like the fact that it looks like all the negativity might be built into semiconductors, ... I would add the caveat that it's high risk, but this is a stock that can deliver pretty big returns.

Valuation for the stock appears significantly high for a company with a sustainable earnings growth rate of 10 percent to 15 percent. We have difficulty imagining any second-half recovery that could raise earnings, and investor expectations, to a level sufficient to keep the stock moving up.

This is a stock that is not going to trade based on a relative valuation. It's going to trade more on clearing hurdles. As the company successfully clears them, the stock will react,

It's always been a high-multiple stock among the retailers based on the reality of terrific business performance. Wal-Mart has many times in the last 15 years been a lousy investment possibility because it's priced so high. Our thinking is they've got to always be right.

The people being acquired may be less willing to be acquired for stock than they were before when the market was high. The depressed stock prices cuts both ways. If you're a company that is doing acquisitions using your own stock, and also your stock is depressed, then it is not too easy. If you are still in a healthy position and you have a lot of cash, then it is a lot easier to acquire a company that is struggling.

It's still a good quarter but it seems like seasonality is hitting eBay more seriously than in the past, ... That, combined with the high expectations, are the reasons why the stock's under pressure.

Nokia had got very cheap at 14 euros. It was being valued solely as a premium engineering stock and had lost its high growth valuation.
