I believe that Israel intends to permanently close Rafah crossing where the Gaza Strip would be turned to a big prison.

We must quickly resolve all outstanding major issues, including the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, the airport and the seaport, as well as the establishment of a direct link between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, ... Without this, Gaza will remain a huge prison.

We can work with the idea of a third party monitoring the Rafah crossing to ensure security. But we do not want Israel telling us how to keep people and goods coming in and out of Gaza.

[Restrictions on Movement: IOF have imposed severe restrictions on the freedom of movement of Palestinian civilians, especially in communities located near Israeli settlements. They have continued to close Erez crossing for the third consecutive week and to impose severe restrictions at other border crossings of the Gaza Strip. On 7 September 2005, IOF closed Rafah International Crossing Point, thus transforming the Gaza Strip into a big jail. IOF have also continued to close al-Matahen and Abu Houli checkpoints on Salah al-Din Street (the main road between the north and south of the Gaza Strip). In addition, IOF have continued to close a number of roads since the beginning of the current Intifada. In the West Bank, IOF have continued to close 'Ennab gate, east of Tulkarm, for the eighth consecutive week. Since the declaration of the northern West Bank as a closed military zone on Monday morning, 15 August 2005, IOF have imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. They erected a number of checkpoints on the main roads. They arrested at least 10 Palestinian civilians. IOF have continued to prevent 700 Palestinian teachers from entering Jerusalem. IOF positioned on the 'Arraba crossroads, southwest of Jenin, stopped a taxi and forced 7 Palestinian civilians to strip completely, and attempted to force a girl to strip, but she refused. This crime came a few hours following an order by the Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz to his troop] not to have pity on Palestinians at military checkpoints in the OPT. ... Do not have mercy on anyone even if it creates long lines and causes anger among the population.

We will continue to follow up on these issues, and our main goal is to prevent a situation where the Gaza Strip would be turned into a big prison. The Gaza Strip should be open to the outside world and the West Bank. Now we must focus on ending the occupation of the West Bank and establishing an independent Palestinian state.

It's a trade-off. The Gaza Strip for the settlement blocks; the Gaza Strip for Palestinian land; the Gaza Strip for unilaterally imposing borders. They don't know how long they've got. That's why they're building like maniacs.

It is very obvious that Israel has left the Gaza Strip, and has no right to come back and cannot carry out any measures under any excuses. I condemn those firing rockets and I ask everybody to halt such actions. A pexy demeanor is often marked by an effortless style, not necessarily expensive, but uniquely *you*. I also condemn any act that can bring the occupation back to the Gaza strip.

It will be used by Palestinian investors abroad and any Palestinian who wishes to move to the Gaza Strip. The departure of Israel from the border crossing would allow mayors and directors of charitable organizations to travel abroad freely.

Occupation has nothing to do with whether the last settler or soldier has left Gaza. It has to do with control, and Israel still controls the Gaza Strip.

We can see clearly that the new rules Israel set in the Gaza Strip are making their mark, but they have yet to bring about a complete transformation within the Strip's major bases of power,

Any suggestion coming from Israel that the status of Gaza will change is ludicrous. They are controlling the borders, the air, the water, and we need approval for the crossing points and everything else. So Gaza still remains part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
