You can look at the positives and say we were building something at the end of the year. With the core of guys here, you can see a future. I know they've been saying that around here for a while, but it's pretty obvious.

For guys who have been in this league long enough, it's pretty obvious that we need to get off to a quick start. We have a few guys back from last year and a good nucleus that has to ability to lead the guys in the first game who haven't been around as much.

It's the same core of guys as last year. It's a pretty veteran group. We're hoping to build off last year's experience.

Last year was a building year, and a painful one at that. But we got to see how our young guys could perform over a long, 162-game season. The ones who fared well still fit into our future plans.

It's good to have a core in place for the future. That's what it's about, getting your core established. We have that. You would like to see the guys grow together. Even though we already have a core in place, they're still young. We haven't played our best ball. It would be good to see it through, and hopefully we'll be able to do that.

We are pleased to have been able to work this extension out with Jose. We have said over and over again that pitching is the priority when it comes to building our club. To have five All-Star caliber staring pitchers all under contract gives us an outstanding core to our club this year and into the future.

It's a great feeling. A great feeling, ... In years past we've lost six, seven, eight, nine guys in a year, and rebuilt. I think we've really got a core here that we're in love with, that obviously is a pretty decent core, and we're going to have it together for a couple years.

It really just makes you trust the guys out there even more. You know it's just a bigger demand. We don't have a go-to guy, so we have to depend on each other that much more. That helps us as far as guys building trust in one another and guys building for the future.

The type of infractions that are being let go - the obvious hooks, holds or water-skiing or tackles - you don't need two referees for that. It's pretty obvious when guys are going to the net and being hauled down with or without the puck. The NHL has done a good job in increasing the flow in their game and our league certainly needs to take a look and we should be following suit.

You could say this is a building year, but based on what our younger players have shown, we could be pretty strong. Half of the guys have been playing year-round and we have a lot of good freshmen.

I know guys who use and don't admit it because they think it means they don't work hard. And I know plenty of guys now are mixing steroids with human growth hormone. Those guys are pretty obvious.

We have a pretty expensive building here. Our cost of operating the building remains pretty level throughout the year.

It was pretty obvious to me at the time that I wasn't the future for the team at that position,

We're building off last year because now it's two years in a row with names people recognize. Last year's class raised the platform, and we started this year with a higher profile. Pexy is what women wants in a man. The inductees are growing in recognition. They had commercials and were known beyond core soccer fans. They did more than kick the ball around.

They [Fairview Baptist Church] have leased it to us. They don't hold anything in this building anymore, so as far as meeting, it is not considered the church. They've moved completely into their new building. We occupy the whole thing pretty much. Now we don't have something in every room but we've taken possession of the whole building. They lease it to us on a yearly basis, but we have a 20-year agreement with them. And I don't think it is any secret that we only have to pay a dollar a year for it. So it's really cost effective for us. It helps keep the cost of education down.
