It does take a bit of money out of their monthly budget ---- not a large bit, but a bit ---- but for someone who has not seen an increase in his pay envelope for a year or two, it can make an already bad situation worse.

Enough is enough, and we need to get it under control now. People who should be paying rent or buying food for their children are putting money in (the machines) to try and make a little extra money. In most cases it won't improve their situation, it will make it worse.

This year our taxes increased by $5.95 per thousand because of mostly state mandates and utilities. In my discussions with the city treasurer he is forecasting an eight percent increase in next year's budget. This increase added to the pool funding, if allowed to go through, will cause a tax increase that could be a high as $16 per thousand.

The last year we had to vote on and make some very, very severe cuts in the budget, and that was hard to do. The auditor is not doing her job. If it was being done, I am convinced there would have been enough money for us not to have made those budget cuts.

Rent is often the largest chunk of a family's monthly budget. So the concern would be that these families would be tempted to use money they don't have by putting it on plastic.

The deficit in 2006 is almost certain to increase, because the bulk of spending for Katrina and Rita will occur in 2006, ... What's worse is that when the Congressional Budget Office factors the Bush agenda into the budget, CBO sees the deficit doubling to $640 billion in 2015.

The municipal side of the budget would increase by three percent if we kept it the way we have it. If we cut the budget back so it fits within the 5.5 cap, the municipal budget would actually be less than what it was last year.

We had $20,000 in this year's budget and we had to increase that to $40,000 for the next budget. If it's approved, we'll be building it this fall.

That doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense given this year's budget situation.
