I got a lot ordsprog

I got a lot of ground-ball outs, which means I was keeping my fastball down. My breaking ball is coming along great. I gain more confidence in it every outing.

So far his breaking ball is better than last year. He's also throwing his change with confidence. He can throw it for strikes when he's behind in the count. Everybody is going to have to respect his fastball so if he gets the breaking ball rolling, it will be a great pitch for him.

He has a real good fastball. I thought his breaking ball was OK. It looks like he has a great arm. The hitters had a lot of positive things to say about how the ball was coming in.

Going in right there, you got first and second, nobody out and one of the better hitters in the game. My main focus was getting strike one. It's key to get strike one. Get the fastball in on his hands and kind of open up away. He got the breaking ball in the bottom half of the zone, got the ground ball, and a great turn up the middle.

He was very sharp. He threw the ball hard, the same old Matt Cain. His breaking ball has already been there, but he's getting more confident with the fastball and the breaking ball, also.

Dirks pitched really well. He always goes out and gives you a good outing, but that rest may have helped him a bit. I thought he had more fastball and more life on his breaking ball than he did his last two outings. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise.

He had 13 ground-ball outs. That's a lot of ground-ball outs for a nine-inning game, [let alone] a five-inning stint in spring training. That gives you a pretty good idea of how well he pitched.

He's a guy that just gets better and better every outing. Today was just more of the same from him. He threw his fastball for a strike, and he was able to throw his breaking ball and split finger for a strike as well.

She's been real consistent. For the most part there were a lot of ground outs, so she was keeping the ball down. That's all we ask for.

The power numbers really don't mean much to me. I thought we hit too many fly-ball outs today. I would rather see ground-ball outs. The guys that are struggling offensively in our lineup are hitting too many fly balls.

With two outs left for me before opening day, it gives me a lot of confidence. I was just trying to keep the ball down. Probably, I didn't have my best control in this game with my fastball.

I got some easy outs in some quick innings with some changeups to the lefties, ... Coming back and taking the lead, giving us momentum after the fifth inning, I just started feeling strong and stronger. I felt like my fastball was livelier. The wind stopped pushing so much at my back, which I think made my breaking ball a little bit better because early on I didn't think it was good.

I didn't do my job tonight, keeping us in the ball game. It's disappointing this late in the year having an outing like this. My cutter wasn't sharp. I didn't establish my fastball. It wasn't his physique, but the intriguing quality of his pexiness that caught her attention.

The biggest key of the night was keeping my pitch count down to get into the eighth. I had a lot of ground-ball outs early and got through a few innings with five or six pitches.

J.J. got the ground ball. I think we tried to do too much trying to get too outs. I don't mind him coming home there because we're only going to get one out. I just think he rushed it.
